Or at least get a plugin that properly displays them?
I've lost count of the number of threads and posts that I have to click out of because it has a link to an image that can't be seen or just a cryptic link that tells me nothing about what the content is.
It's frustrating and to be honest 90% of posts just get ignored now. To pre-empt the inevitable I don't know why Twitter is getting singled out here as I'm happy enough clicking through to proper articles, maybe it's just the prevalence of linking that makes it more noticeable and therefore more irritating. I don't know.
The links all display fine for me.
Can you show an example of one that's not displaying properly?
Fine here, not fine behind my work firewall (it’s just a URL)
The link on the ant thread played the video just fine, within the link itself, within the thread. It's a great video, BTW. 🙂
The links usually work fine for me too.
I think if you copy the URL directly instead of Twitters "share tweet" thing you just end up with a link?
I've more a problem with Facebook links.
There are several users who just regurgitate their twitter bubbles as if its meaningful or original content. The Ukraine thread is frequently derailed with the phenomenon. I find it quite annoying as it derails discussion, I wouldn't mind if it was just every now and then, but for some posters 70%+ of their posts is twitter content. If that's what I wanted I would be on twitter.
"If that’s what I wanted I would be on twitter."
Exactly!
Some display nicely, some don't for me. Tbh I don't clink on any links without the content mentioned. If the poster can't be bothered to add context it probably isn't that relevant or interesting
But the Twitter links work, so I can see the subject matter and and intro without having to click through whereas a link to a random website needs to be clicked and opened before I get those.
Some display nicely, some don’t for me.
Do you have an example of one that doesn't work?
The links that don't work for me are Amazon ones - just get some weird 'Kindle link not available' message.
Nope, they display fine for me, and often the content is quite useful and/or interesting.

Ouch! Guilty. In a fast moving situation like Ukraine, the first we hear of significant events like the Bucha atrocities, sinking of the Moskva etc are often via Twitter. Add to that embedded journalists, normal Ukrainian citizens etc tweeting and it can shine a light on aspects of the war that aren't reported elsewhere. This war, more than any other has been an information war largely played out on social media.
Yes, large parts of Twitter are a cesspool of irrelevance and misinformation, but most people posting on that thread provide a reason why a particular tweet is relevant and link to (mostly) credible sources. I have certainly learned stuff from Twitter links people have posted on the Ukraine thread. It's not a replacement for discussion, but IMO often prompts and informs it.
They display fine for me too. An actual screenshot of the Tweet with the key information, so there's no need to even click on it or go to Twitter most of the time, unless it's a long thread and you want to read more.
I’ve never had an issue with Twitter links. Either displaying them or with people posting them.
I’m glad that they do, in fact, as that shows me the small worthwhile bits of Twitter without me actually having to go on Twitter, which is vile, hate-filled cesspit
I have certainly learned stuff from Twitter links people have posted on the Ukraine thread.
Me too. There's not really much left to discuss about Ukraine. The "is Russia just bluffing" question has been resolved, the "will Ukraine collapse question is resolved", the "will Russia be as murderous as they have been historically" question is resolved. All that we can do now is keep updating the important events. Twitter links are the easiest way to do that.

No, I like this. It's great. Someone else trawls through the Twitter garbage so I don't have to. I'm not going to follow all these people and be battered with whatever they had for dinner. The STW Twitter aggregation service by topic is one of my favourite sources. Much quicker than the main news sites and usually more interesting content.
In fact, it's the best part of the thread, more so than endless 'Chewkw loves Putin' waffle. When there's an incident the curated tweets on there can be very interesting.
I dip into the Ukraine thread to get new info and developments, and the Twitter links (which display fine) are a useful part of that.
TBH the 'discussion' on there has become more of a useless, if entertaining distraction.
Twitter links work for me.... and sometimes I'll seek out a tweet to post from a media outlet (newspaper, TV news etc) rather than link directly to the source I've been reading, because the embedded tweet gives a good short summary of the full article/video/page as well as a link to it... so you get more context without a click then you would otherwise, but can still go and read the full story if you want to. Win win.
So an example of a link not working:

displays as:
The Russian Rocket and Spacecraft Scientific Center in Korolyov is on fire right now.
It’s the main analytical center of the Russian Space Agency (Russian NASA) Roskosmos.
2 strategic fires yesterday, 1 today.

Putin was not looking at all well today. People have particularly noted his hunched position and the fact he never let go of the table during the entire 12-minute meeting with Shoigu. (Source: @SvobodaRadio.) pic.twitter.com/cjPyNh0l9F

Is there supposed to be a picture? Because none of the embedded tweets (if that's what they are) ever show pictures. I can't remember ever seeing a picture displayed here from Twitter actually. I use Firefox on my mobile and home PC. If someone could link to a post with a pic I can confirm whether or not there is anything to see.

Works fine for me. What browser are you using?

Everyone of those work for me
Pixel 4 Firefox app or brave going through tunnel 🐻
By "works" do you mean you can see a picture?
As said, I'm running Firefox.
They all work for me and include pics.
What he said ^^^^^
Some Amazon links go funny but I take that as hint from god not to buy stuff and line Jeff's coffers
Regardless of the fact of whether twitter links work or not, I don't see any good reason we shouldn't ban them or at least, please, entertain the idea somewhat further. C'mon, just mull it over. Ban twitter. Think of the many benefits.
They work. Why would I go on Twitter when Kelvin posts a best of on themes that might interest me on here? 👍
Hmm interesting.
I see none of that, literally just what I posted.
So I just turned my tracking protection off and suddenly I can see loads of stuff.
Some twitter images are working but not all.
Had a prod at NoScript and yup, twitter was being blocked. Now everything works!
Interesting that I have corporate network level security going on, didn't realise it was that high.
Glad to be of service.
Yup cheers, I had no idea how much was being blocked!
