Oops I went night riding last week and forgetting to check my pockets I put my shorts in the wash along with the rechargable batteries from the bike light. I have put them in the torch and they are dead. So the question is are they dead and is there anything I can do apart not forgetting to check my pockets.

Should be ok left a power drillbattey on a customers roof for a week, in the cold and rain, poured the water out of it and recharged it a few days latter after it had dried out.

Get them into a jar or a bag of rice for a few days to dry them out. Then try the charger again.

My bluetooth GPS inc batt went through the wash. Put it in the airing cupboard for a few days, stuck it together with a bit of duct tape and it works fine 🙂
