Thinking about the fact that 'It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)' is popular at the moment. Did Michael Stipe foresee coronavirus? Think about the lyrics..
It starts with 'Birds and Snakes'; well that's basically bats
'and aeroplanes'; without modern global connectivity it probably wouldn't have become so wide spread
Then there is a bunch of stuff about being self serving - panic buying
And then the refrain - 'it's time I spent some time alone'; clearly referencing self isolation.
Needless to say, I'm not actually serious, but the thought amused me for a few minutes
Dean Koontz also
Love the song, I’ve never been able to ‘sing’ the lyrics fast enough to keep up!
Much prefer Night Swimming.
@CountZero so much of that mid-80s R.E.M is fantastic; I was too young at the time but got it all when out-of-time became so popular. I actually think it's better than the 90s stuff
@ctk - that is a little spooky, but I guess as they do have a lab there it's not totally wild
Definite lack of shiny happy people at the moment
But I've got my Orange Crush
I am feeling Blue Had a Bad Day with all the Coronavirus threads but I guess I've gotta look past The Great Beyond so might go for a Drive.
What about automatic for the people?
'try not to breath'
'everybody hurts'
'ignoreland'
All seem a bit prescient...
It’s got so bad I’ve Lost My Religion...
It starts with ‘Birds and Snakes’; well that’s basically bats
