Mot was in June . The mechanic logged the wrong mileage which is 6000 miles more than what it is.
Want to trade car in but mileage doesn't match the mot.
Have contacted Dvsa but I'm thinking it might be quicker just to get another mot.
I know the reminder says you can do one a month before and keep the renewal date. I'm not worried about that. I just want the 2 mileages to tally and the wheels of the Dvsa can turn as slow as they like .

Don't they record all MOTs on the check gov site?

Could you not just explain to potential buyers the issue- nobody winds the mileage back 6000 miles as it would make very little difference to the trade value on a car with average mileage. If it were 30000 miles difference it would

what I mean is that it’s pretty obviously an error rather than potential fraud

You can MoT at any time, but it will still show as a variation in the records and create a flag in most check systems.

Couple of trips to the Alps should equal it back out.

I shall get a new mot and in a month or so the wrong one will be corrected.
It's obviously a mistake but computers don't like it when the salesman types it in.

i thought if you get an mot test, if it fails you have only 2 weeks to correct it. then youre out of mot.

Where's the two weeks come from ?

If you have an unroadworthy car it's unroadworthy once it fails. It may still have a valid mot but it's unroadworthy with subsequent fail.

Continuing to use it is just negligent.

The mot is such a low bar there's no real excuse -

to a degree, something like a chipped windscreen over the prescribed size I’d happily carry on driving it.

I think you get two weeks to correct the fault and get a re-test free of charge

That's not two weeks carte blanche to keep driving around.
