I have a neighbour's kitchen wall and also a school hall as boundaries of my garden.
Can I drill into them to hang stuff on? It would be some/all of the following:
Hanging Baskets
Trellis with plants
Bike storage
Climbing wall (probably holds on wood attached to the wall rather than holds attached directly to the wall).
Am I liable if the school falls down as a result of me putting up a hanging basket?
Not without their permission
You can drill into them.
But you would be damaging their property, and so liable for the damage you cause. And, of course, you would be committing trespass.
And that's ignoring any criminal implications - you could be at risk of criminal damage.
So, yes, you 'can' but I'm not sure you should...
Dont do what my old man done many years ago. Knocking 2 rooms in their terraced house into one big room. So he had to put an RSJ across to support the upstairs. This consisted of gently knocking into the wall either side to house the girder. One side done, no problem, second side not so good. He'd gone in a fair way but decided just another bit to make sure, next thing he could see daylight from next door, its ok he said, its only a tiny hole, I'd be surprised if they even notice. Knock on door when neighbours got home, come and have a look at this they say, so in we troop, and lo and behold, the tiny hole was about a foot wide their side and all the wallpaper had fallen off to boot. 😀
I still like to bring it up every now and then. 8)
