Thinking of walking Striding Edge with my son on Tuesday, plan to drive up in our Berlingo without rear seats & sleep in the car. Wondering if anyone could recommend any potential spots away from the public gaze nearby to free camp? We'd like to maybe have an off the ground BBQ for dinner (leaving no trace), and not piss anyone off by free camping. Prefer secluded peace & quiet as opposed to layby beside main road. Plan to get an early start.

Cheers.

Not what you're after I know but the campsite in Glenridding is really nice and not expensive.

We did Striding Edge from that campsite and down Sharp Edge. It's a nice circuit and means you don't need to shift the van in the morning. Can't remember the prices but being a tight Scot I would remember if it was expensive!

Why can't you pay for camping like everyone else? Why should you get it for free. Many places are struggling to make ends meet after the floods a few quid from you might help.

I don't think you will find anywhere in immediate vicinity of Glenridding - use the campsite if you have to be close.
