It's cold
I'm willing to help
Personal donation from me, and/or a forum/group go fund me,
Reply to this thread or personal message, I don't mind.
Let's keep someone warm who might have to make the choice between food or heating this week
thought about this earlier, someone will not be able to afford it.
we have the heating on every morning for 2 hours. 7 while 9. we then go out on the bikes or for a walk or whatever.
we then have the heating on for 2 hours on a evening, 5 while 7. me and the wife share the bath ( not at the same time)
couple of clothes washes a week.
our little digital meter tells me this is about a fiver a day. so £150 a month
that is a lot of money to keep clean and warm.
Good thought - already being done
I said a while back in the 'who's putting the heating on thread' - I'm lucky, I can afford the increases, not that we aren't still being careful. The Gov £400 is nice but honestly should have gone to those that need it. so instead I've been using it to feed the foodbank cages at the supermarket.
Slightly pissed off with at least one poster gloating how his bill was already small so in effect the Gov donation was cash in his pocket that he didn't need, not sure if was trolling given past history.
That is a lovely thought.
One way to do exactly that would be to help (with money of time) a 'fuel bank'. Like food banks they used to be very rare emergency help but are now needed more often.
See this site describing what they do:

NB apparently the King donates so you are in good company!
There was at least one person on the central heating thread
I think I am paying over 1/3 of my income so I would like to apply but.... I have a chunk of capital to spend including a £2000 overpayment to get thru so it might be a bit cheeky
There was at least one person on the central heating thread
I'll read through the thread tomorrow
Like.... Nice gesture, op.
Got a friend that is cooking his meals on a wood burning stove. He's turned everything else off so he can get by. We take him wood and food and invite him round for meals. He's highly autistic and an alcoholic. We do our best by him, and it's getting him through the winter.
It's just wrong in a country like this that people can't afford their heating bills. My niece is in this situation. Lives in a poorly insulated 60's council house that just leaches heat. I'm lucky our house is smallish and well insulated, but even my gas bill hit over £200 in the last month. Having gas that's 3x more expensive.
What a lovely sentiment.
If no-one here wants to put their hands up for help, another route to put money where it matters is this chap on twitter.
He goes into houses and uncovers some truly harrowing situations. Fixes/replaces boilers, tops up meters, puts food in cupboards.
Does it out of his own pocket and through donations, no middleman required.
