So... Seem to have gone on a spur of the moment trip to Cardiff to see the girlfriend for 10 days.
However she's working during the week days so thought it would be nice to ride around and check out the area. However I don't have anything to ride?
Anyone got an old beater/pub bike I could borrow in exchange for a pack of beer?

Or any ideas for interesting things to do for someone skint but with much time on their hands?

I don't have anything that'd fit you, but I think there's a few Cardiffites on the forum. Good luck.

Unfortunately don't have a beater and my decent bike needs work.

If the weather clears later go here -

Or the Depot worth a check -

As much as I'd love to lend my lovely new bike to a stranger off the internet, I errr can't.

There's a place in Sofia Gardens that rents out basic bikes for riding about the parks, taff trail etc. If you want a decent bike you'll need to take a trip to Afan, BPW or Cwmcarn there are rentals available at each.

My gf stays in pontcanna. In Welsh speak that makes her posh totty or something.

Went up the Taff Trail today. Got to Pontypridd before her lady parts got sore.

Have free days on Monday and Tuesday if anyone fancies a ride... Any good mountain biking near Cardiff? Seems flat...

Apologies for verbally molesting the Brecon Beacons. I am new here..

It's definitely not flat if you go to the right places. You could try Taff Trail up to Castel Coch then plenty in the forest three and also on the other side of the road. Wenault is okay and stuff off the back of Caerphilly mountain. Garth mountain on other side of A470 is good also. But it would be a lot easier if you have someone to show you the routes.

Flat.. lol.. city centre is, but the other side of the M4 it starts going very steeply up and down all the way to Bangor.

I can show you, but only on the weekend. I could give you a gpx of a good route or two...?

Bit confused by posts declaring you are skint and buying a bike off the classifieds to do the odd ride on 😉

Not sure of rail network assuming you don't have a car but I would have thought there must be some great riding a short train ride away, dirt cheap super off peak retrun and the job's a good-un.

No need for a train journey Jamby, it's straight out of the door if you live in Cardiff 😀

As above there is plenty of quality riding straight from Cardiff via the Taff Trail. Although as a day trip you could grab the train up to Merthyr and ride in the Brecon Beacons.

Thanks team
Cheaper to buy a £100 bike than renting one etc.
Can flog it for the same in a few months when the gf moves up to Edinburgh.

Not sure about Tuesday evening. Try to spend as much time together when she's not at work as we can.

Can probably work something out myself. Went up that hill next to the castle on taff trail. **** that's hard work on a single speed!
Got to Pontypridd

Will maybe try taking a train to Methyr and going into the Beacons next week

At least you said 'massif' and not 'massive'.

Anyway, I am. And in case he doesn't put in an appearance again on this thread, so is molgrips. As are taxi25 and mooman.

I would imagine quite a few others as well.

As my really cool name above suggests, I'm from one of the northern suburbs! Anyway, for anyone interested, I'm off for a spin around Cerphilly mountain then Castell Coch tomorrow morning, meeting at the cafe at the top at 9:30.
