Had a very suss looking character set one of our cameras off last night at 2.53AM.
Walks up the drive, spots the camera and shines his torch at it, then has second thoughts about whatever he was planning on doing.

Can anyone tell me what the white van/pickup he was driving was please?
I've now set the camera to run for longer so it'll capture it better if he comes back.

Agree with T6, but beaten to it by Cokie.

Thanks both.
It does seem very much like the T6

Just had a closer look.
Seems like it could be a T6 pickup/flatbed type thing?
The body seems to end/curve at 90 degrees just behind the bottom of the door?

Or side sliding door is open?

Don't think it's a side door open as the video shows it moving away like that but then cuts out before i can get a full view.

It's pretty worrying as it seems we we're targeted for something.
I can take a pretty good guess what too.

I'm pretty careful about being followed and everything is kept out of site.

Last frame of video shows it a bit better.

Stu, I think you are local to me. There is a milk van that does the rounds between 12am - 4am. It is a flat bed white van of some sort. Could it be a new milkman just trying to find a house? The one that delivers in my street is not badged but is easily identifiable by the radio playing full volume and the door being left open while he runs up and down driveways!

edit - McQueens Dairies have a branch in Gala. Quick google image search shows white VW flatbeds, this might be a new or old one that has not be logo'd yet. Might be worth asking them if it is one of their drivers, could put your mind at rest.

Does look like a T6 pick-up

eg, https://www.kvdcars.com/auctions/vw-transporter-pickup-t6-1-tdi-110hk-165263

Yep, I retract my 'open side door' hypothesis now seeing that!

T6

Being pick-up probably limits it down a bit as I can't imagine there being that many around (compared to the van version), but without a reg plate it'll still be near-impossible to completely trace it (as my work colleague who got taken out by a distinctive pick-up/farm trailer combo in a hit n run has found out).

McQueens Dairies. Quick google image search shows white VW flatbeds.
interesting theory! Would be a nice benign solution! The online images all show that their vehicles have signwritten front doors though 🤔

The one that delivers to my street doesn't.
My money is on this being the milkman. They deliver in the area around the same time using identical vehicles. Although I guess it would also be a great cover story if he is dodgy!

Our MQ delivery is by someone who seems to have a different van each week. I don't think any of them have company branding.

I've spoken to someone from McQueens and he couldn't tell me if they were delivering in our street last night or not.
He did say they deliver in our street though.
He asked me to email him the video and he'll have a look to see if he recognises the truck and person.

Thanks very much with these suggestions it's making me feel a lot better.
I hope it's as innocent as that and i can stop worrying about being the next target for now.

I guess that if the person was doing something nefarious then they wouldn't be likely to be shining a torch about surely? It would make sense for it to be a milkie trying to find a house number.

Only on STW can you ask for help to ID a vehicle and someone narrows it down to the dairy/milkman!

our local facebook page went nuts with Ring doorbell footage when the 'modern milkman' started delivering in the area, unmarked van in their case as well.

No word from Mcqueens but it's been confirmed by a neighbour that they were delivering a couple of streets away about half an hour before.
Thanks again to Frank for the suggestion.

Crikey, this is better detective work than your typical Police Constabulary.

a very suss looking character

It's all the early starts and lack of sleep, plays havoc with your demeanour!

then has second thoughts about whatever he was planning on doing.

?leaving yoghurt on your porch?

I hear SStu is only pint sized, so any attempts to mooove on a milky would require a hoof in the slats...

Not a high bar to reach…

Pasteurise?

Only standing up…

Gotta say, though, this site just never fails to astound me in the way that it, as a distributed community, manages to source information, even when the circumstances are so localised as this. Brilliant work everyone.👏🏻🫶🏻

Got to love a happy ending!

Years ago we had a bit of an odd character across the road who we couldn’t suss. He had a clapped out rusty old Transit LWB pull up every night around 1am, stay for about 20 seconds, neighbour opens the door, driver passes something and then van drives off. We couldn’t work it out. Thought maybe he was a drug dealer. All the neighbours had wild theories.

Turns out the van was the milkman’s and the neighbour does night shifts so is up and around at 1am to collect his milk director from the milkman.

You’re not the first, Stu! When my daughter was a few weeks old I was getting a new bin bag (poonami) from the kitchen at about 2am. In a completely sleep deprived state, I saw a van drive out of where we live with no lights on and a person wearing a head torch. Thought they were scoping a neighbours garage, they were actually delivering their milk!!! Everyone was very good about it!
