It's an 8GB one, and I have put 4 kids books, 1 song and 4 apps on it (Angry Birds, Minecraft etc.). It's telling me that there's no storage left and keeps turning the wifi off. What am I doing wrong here?

Mine has millions of books, loads of apps, I back up my phone pics to it and there's loads of memory left.

Have you checked the memory on the device? It will break down all the areas into amount of memory taken. Have a look and see if there is something outrageous.

You would think that would be sufficient space to work the wifi.

Sounds like you need Kindle Help on Amazon. Good Luck!

8Gb model should have ~5Gb of usable storage. Sounds like you're missing 4Gb somewhere. Faulty memory? I'd be contacting Amazon.
