Looking to have a week away with the kids and fancy Dorset (Jurassic Coast) for a change from Devon/Cornwall.
Any recommendations for a camp/caravan site ideally close to a beach with stuff to do with the kids (2 & 5) ?
I quite like the idea of being able to hunt for fossils too 😳

There's a camp site and Caravan site at Durdle Dore which is well sited for walks down through Lulworth Cove and along the coast path when the Ranges are shut. (check on web site) You can even visit the fossil forest!

We stayed at Hook Farm above Lyme Regis, it was nice enough and a 20 minute walk down to the town and beach

Freshwater Holiday Parc in Burton Bradstock ticks all those boxes, but it is VERY holiday park-ish. Has it's own section of beach, swimming pools with splashy kids stuff, ten pin bowling, bars etc. Five minutes from Bridport.

There's a few campsites in Charmouth (great beach with safe swimming- much of Chesil beach isn't, fossils, slightly crap pubs).

Lyme Regis area has loads.

Have a look at https://coolcamping.com/campsites/uk/england/west-country/dorset

If you want to stay in the heart of 'Broadchurch' West Bay, near Bridport, has a few campsites + holiday parks. Again, is busy and touristy.

Basic but blissful: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/golden-cap/features/st-gabriels-campsite-on-the-golden-cap-estate

We camped at Norden farm campsite which was amazing if you like campsites that aren't overly commercial and allow you to get back to camping as it should be.
Really close to Corfe castle so you can get to Swanage, Wareham, Poole, Studland.

You can't visit the fossil forest at the moment as the concrete steps down to the cove are collapsing due to corrosion! Unlike the fossils that are thousands of years old. Don't forget to check the army range access times if you want to walk parts of the coastal path. Lyme Regis is also good for fossil hunting.
