We're thinking of doing the south down's way in a couple of days from Eastbourne. Does anyone have any suggestions on campsites on route about 50 miles along the route?

Not a campsite, but there's the YHA at Truleigh hill.

Have a google around steyning. There should be something close by and it's easy to get back on the SDW the next day.

There is a bunkhouse at Houghton village near the River Arun https://www.southdownsbunkhouse.co.uk

There is also the Bothy and Campsite at Gumber: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/gumber-camping-barn-and-campsite

I can't speak for the bunkhouse but can reccomend the bothy , only potential issue is that its out in the sticks so no shops or pubs nearby, well the nearest pubs are in Eartham or Slindon, both a couple of miles away so bring your own food and drink.

You could try here, not far off the route.
Washington
Alternatively park the camper in one of the carparks on the SDW near Storrington or Steyning.

I was going to suggest High Titten , but apparently it's closed. So what Splashman says.

Yeah...probably couldn’t get much closer to the halfway point of the SDW than Washington!!

When are you doing the ride again?

Thanks for the heads up, didn't know that had happened to High Titten.
It was ideal for winter nights out but I never went near it in the summer.
Just hated the slog straight up Amberley Mount in the morning with cold legs.

You can camp at Truleigh hill
https://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-truleigh-hill

Also there is Housedean farm campsite but that is further along near Lewes
