My son has is doing a track race in Glasgow in October, I have agreed he can do it if we keep the costs down (driving from Bristol).

Can anyone recommend a campsite that is within an hour of Glasgow (towards Lockerbie off of the A74(M))?

The race finishes at 10.30pm and thought we may head south for an hour or so before settling down for the night. We can set the tent up on the way up. Because it is October electric hook-up may be worth having!

Moffat camping and caravan club site is really nice, a few minutes off the M74. Site is in town so easy walk to the pub if that's your thing. Not sure it's open the whole of October though.

Ot. And probably a bit late but check travelodge as you can get some pretty good deal but they usually are better a long time ahead(other hotel chains are available) and as it's October http://www.wigwamholidays.com/locations.aspx. One just s of dumfries

Hoddom Castle - 2 miles off the M74 at Junction 19 - Ecclefechan

They do lodges and "chill pods" if you can't be arsed putting up a tent. Site is open till the start of November.

Edit: as iainc says below - I'd be looking at the Holiday Inn express in Strathclyde Park.
It gets a bit chilly up here in October time. 😉

^^^^ Hoddam Castle

...however I's be going for the cheap travel lodge idea - should get a room for £40, vs a hook up camp pitch for £20...

EDIT PP beat me to it 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at lunchtime.

I have had a look at hotels and the cheapest I can find is £54 so far.

Hoddom Castle was going to be my recommendation as well - it's a very nice site.
