We’re in Lake District for one week in July (travelling down from the Highlands). Never visited North Wales so thinking a 2nd week there before or after Lake District. The family requirements are:

For a motorhome so electric pitch etc. Decent clean shower block etc for the Mrs.

Location - Short walk or cycling distance to a village or town. Or good bus services. Once motorhome pitched we prefer to leave it and not rely on it for transport unless really have to.

Stuff on site (play park etc) or nearby to keep 8 yos occupied.

Nice villages, attractions etc to visit in surrounding area.

Mtbing for me that I can bike to ie no more than a few miles away.

Beach nearby a bonus but not an absolute must. Wouldn’t sacrifice the above just for a beach.

Any recommendations?

We stayed here, did an uplift at Antur Stiniog one day and then down to Coed y Brenin Forest

We stayed at the below campsite a couple of years ago. Think they have electric pitches for campers (we hired a bell tent that was already up and had a shed next to it with a gas powered shower + sink + toilet in it).

Pretty close to Dolgellau which has takeaways / pubs / restaurants etc.

Shower blocks were ok - although we used our shed (bit random). You’re allowed open fires etc.

Thanks both, looks like the first one closed for refurb. Will check in case likely to open by summer. Second looks cracking location but basically a field? Really needing some decent facilities.

We stayed Here for a couple of nights last year. Apart from the prick with the acoustic guitar, it was bang on

You won’t get a beach and a trail center together. Somewhere around Barmouth would give you car free access to a loop of Pont Scethin and you could use the old cycle track from Barmouth to Dolgellau and local back roads then to Coed y Brenin - but that in itself is quite a ride not including any trails itself.

If you got somewhere along the Conwy valley train line, you could then use the train to access Llanrwst (Marin) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (Antur Stiniog).

If you have a car, that would be easier in my opinion.

I didn’t bike at this site but walking was good and village walk was pretty and short, Cae Du Campsite near Beddgelert.
Also stayed in Barmouth that trip at Hendre Mynach site. Rode up the old line to Dolgellau. Not challenging but then I was allowed to go play at CYB the whole of one day which was fun.

I thought this looked nice. Looked at the tariff page and it looked a bit pricey...
So for us to go in school summer hols (2 adults, 3 kids, 1 dog, 1 small trailer (+£3/night!), electric hook up) would be £77 per night! That's madness.

When we started camping as a family about 7yrs ago most sites were around £35 for similar. That's probably over £40 now. But, £77?

Still plenty good sites out there for 35-40 a night. Some actually I’m surprised haven’t put price up a bit or cover energy prices etc.

Some as just taking the p*** though when up at 70-80pn.

I don't think it was that much when we went last year, it might've been 50ish. It was a one off trip for us at that point, I wouldn't want to be paying 77 a night if it was something we did on the reg's.
