Reading the post re camping/kayaking near lakes has reminded me of my promise to myself to use my van more this year (Vw t4).
know plenty in here with vans so what are your favourite campsites?
Im happy with relatively basic facilities, would prefer nice location, clean and cheap over ones that seem to cost more than a hotel! Allowing camp fires also a big plus
Obviously great if location is good for activities like biking, hiking and SUP.
if there is anything Midlands way (I live in Leamington) that’d be excellent as want a few quick get always after work on a Friday.
What are your favourites?
Todmorden Cricket Club. Camper van town.
Stayed a few weeks ago, very simple site but bargain price. Lots of walks and riding, plus pubs and great places to eat.

Thanks, I’ll check those out

My top tip is to join the 'Caravan and Motorhome Club' https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/ because although the last thing I ever want to do is stay on their big holiday park type sites, paying the 30 quid or whatever gives you access to find loads of 'Certificated Locations' which are basically just people with a bit of space who want to offer some space to fellow enthusiasts for a really affordable cost. Usually a maximum of 5 'vans' (whatever sort) at any one time.
I've stayed at a lot now, average 15-20 quid per night, facilities vary from just a tap and a place to empty a chemical toilet at the more basic end, through to full EHU, showers and flushing toilets inside a nice warm building.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped at one that had tap, EHU and chemical disposal, cost 15 quid a night, on the road to Cadair and it was ace. 20 mins to Coed Y Brenin each morning and no worries about the many thousands worth of ebike outside on the rack all night...
or join the Camping and Caravan Club! Five van sites a plenty and tents are allowed too. I’m in both clubs but tend to use the Camping Club more. Hope this helps.
We’re in both clubs gives you access to some brilliant sites, some which are very reasonable with the member savings.
Of course we all know that no one uses the sites and park where they like.
Andrews Field near Eckington bridge on the River Avon is quite nice and not that far from Leam.
It's basic. In fact, there are no toilets so you've to be self contained or never need a poo.
They allow fires , and it's right on the Avon and it's a beautiful stretch there for a paddle.
I've Sup'ed and canoeded all of the Avon now except for one tree filled section, and that bit is lovely.
Some nice riding nearby albeit more at the xc end of things. Bredon Hill is great to walk up or bike up.
Eckington bridge

We had a long weekend at Carsington Water, getting back yesterday. The Knockerdown pub has a campsite and you have SUP and other watersports half a mile down the road, Ashbourne, Matlock and Wirksworth 5 miles away and cycling of all sorts.
