Please recommend me a campsite in the Southern half of the Peak district that will take a campervan and will allow late arrivals.
Every site I've looked at won't allow you to check-in after dusk or some other pointlessly early time cut off. Sadly we both have jobs so aren't likely to get to the area until 2130-2200.
Thanks for any help.
I'd try ringing one or two and being dead polite and friendly.
Most sites have a late arrives spot or two outside the locked gate .
As above call.
Lots of pubs in the White Peak have camping in the field/car park.
Birchwood farm. Whatstadwell, awesome pedals from the campervan door!
Els is right, what's that one in Darley Dale?
The square and compass.
Can't you just camp where ever you park?
Just find a nice spot for the night and arrive the following morning.
We can do but we want a big ride tomorrow so it's nice to get settled Friday night. Most sites don't accept new arrivals until after midday .
Thanks for the suggestions. I tend to think that if a site specifically says on their website they won't accept arrivals after a certain time then they mean it. Usually if they are prepared to be flexible they will say something like - if you are likely to arrive after 8pm please contact us in advance.
@timidwheeler - if you don't phone them and ask you'll never find out !
Yeah it's off season, give em a ring, they'll likely be glad of the business. Little places are rarely that bothered about what goes on the website and will have paid some guy £300 to build it several years ago using geocities! 😆 Where are you intending to ride?
I always stay up at hardhurst farm. Maybe a little bit north for you, it’s in bradwell just out of hope - but rocking up late is fine, just knock on the door in the morning. 2 in a camper is £14.
I always thought most regular places were like this tbh, ignoring the posh ones.
As I said, ring up birchwood, they'll be fine with it. I've seen people arriving there way after dark.
try Barracks farm just south of Hartington. They're very relaxed, although minimum facilites.
Again thanks all for your help.
We've stayed at Hardhurst before and they were no hassle so I think we'll do that (or possibly Swallowholme if they answer the phone). It's a bit further north than I was initially planning but it's a pretty part of the world and it's occurred to me it will be looking georgous at this time of year.
I've got the dark/white peak books so will just grab a couple of rides from there unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Lots don't allow excessive noise beyond 2230/2300. Like the scum that inhabits these places on a weekend cares about that...
Agree on calling and being nice. Campsites invariably need to hide behind lots of rules/signs as it gives them a fighting chance if they have to evict someone.
