I've got a camping elec hook up which I haven't used yet and no experience of campsite hookups. It's got the round blue plug on one end and then an RCD and 3 normal 240v sockets on the other end.

Would it be better tom dd an inline rcd just after the blue hookup plug? Or are the campsite elec points already fitted with them? I'm assuming they are as otherwise it seems silly having the rcd thing at the end of a 20m cable not at the start.

Every campsite I've been to recently has had an RCD on the hook up.

So there’s no need for one on your side? Wondering the same. Have a waterproof cable to run to the van to charge the e bikes….

It can still be worth having one because you don't know the rating of the campsite RCD. In France they're generally 30mA boxes but you many find some old ones with 500mA.

There is actually a section in the regulations on campsites. Someone with a copy can give you more info as I can't remember the details but pretty sure there is an rcd. I would just make sure you have rcbos in you min consumer unit.

Personally I wouldn't go for the cheap ones on eBay that are just a simple lead with the relevant plugs on each end.

The proper, waterproof, tested RCD leads are not massively expensive these days.

You won't be popular on site if you keep tripping the power to the site through using cheap hookups/dodgy, over powered heaters etc. I've seen that happen.😁

When I worked on a campsite in the 80s it was always the Brits tripping the electrics. RCDs were already installed in most French/European homes so people had already thrown out their old leaky electrical things years before. The Brits who didn't have RCDs at home plugged in their old hair dryer and ping! no juice for anyone on that box.

I've got away with a extension lead blue plug for years then into a normal 4 gang but most camp sites have rcd on the hook up I've been told off once for it not for tripping the rcd but the cable being yellow. Caravan police caught me in the morning when they where doing the rounds.
Tbf the cable is yellow so 110v but its 30amp rated.
I've got a proper one now 😊
