Recommendations please. Needs to carry full array of camping gear. 3 people, 3 nikes and a dog. Mazda 6 hatchback at the moment and its all getting a bit much trying to sqeeze everything in.

Depends on what your array of camping gear is. We can fit all ours in 4 panniers. But if we had 8 panniers we'd fill those too. And if we we're camping with the van... we'd fill that too. If you have more space you'll put more in it (and bring more of it home unused)
Unless you camp at least every other weekend then I wouldn't change a car for that reason alone. Just get a trailer instead.
