For years I've managed with two bistro type stoves that take the 220g butane cartridges £1 each from BM bargains. This year I decided that we needed a new twin burner campinggaz stove. But I can't get my head round us that by the time ive bought the bottle and the gas (even If I use calor) it will take years to start saving money over the cartridges. Am I missing something. Stove plus bottle plus gas will be over 100 quid. For same amount if gas in cartridges about 20 quid.

Depends if it's about the cost or other issues like speed to boil, sturdiness and other such potentially useful things.

I have a cast iron 2 ring with pretty big burners, boils fast very solid and stable. It was a bit pricey but It will probably outlast me but it fits my personal criteria.

That's a hard price to beat for Butane

I wonder if just refilling my bottle beats that

But its convenient just carrying one bottle and only having to change it one in a blue moon

Bigger bottle is more stable in terms of temperature and therefore burn rate

How does a refil on the big bottle compare in cost to the same amount in cartridges ?
I was looking at the calorgas bistro 300 in Go outdoors earlier today . £35 on its own , or £30 if you buy it and 4 gas cartridges at the same time. That's £30 for the burner and the gas carts together. No brainer there.
I'm in the process of choosing a double with big bottle over the bistro too. Apart from the built in toaster bit, I can't see much advantage for the amount I would use it.
