we are in the process of looking for a campervan, but have no idea what to get or even wether to buy new or old.
got a few guides to work on. we can stretch to maybe £30k. not too bothered for a shower/toilet. need a full size bed at least 6ft5'' long.
and dont want a big old caravan on wheels type thing.

any idea's/pointers.

Tony you need to look in different vans to see want you want - layout, bed size , extras like fridge, sink, etc and most importantly for you Dimensions inside.
Recommend you go to Wellhouse campers up at Shepley, got a good range of smaller vans to view.

ime there is the VW size, then the panel van then the converted panel van, also there is a 'driveability experience difference' between Vw(carish) and van(vanish) and a few that fall across boundaries.

have at look at the autosleeper page - the nuevo is what I **think** is the smallest full custom (5.7m long - ambulance size - so sounds too big for you), they also do quite a few van conversions (so narrower but can be longer) - we went nuevo as we are using long term in uk weather and wanted full facilities and it's pretty much a facilities/comfort vs size/driveability - so as said above you probably want to work out what facilities you really want and take it from there.

try following makes timberland, east neuk, devon, auto trail, romahome, nu venture, wildax (east neuk, nu venture and romahome are smaller/boundary crossers also try traffic and vivaro motorhome and duetto and the older Intelligent Horizons aka IH)

wildax do hire weekends as do a fair few other places - might be worth a try

flebay,autotrader and - http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/CaravanClubApps/Applications/caravan-classifieds/results.aspx?adverttypeid=2&makeid=395&model=Nuevo&numberofresults=20

edit nu venture (rio and surf) === berlingo ditto romahome smaller ones

Ours is a panel van, but bed only 6'2 and height inside about same so not necessarily the ideal van type for Ton. Much research required

We started looking for secondhand this time last year but found it hard to view different types. Finished up going to the NEC in October for the motorhome part of the show. We had no intension of buying new but with some of the deals on offer it was cheaper than buying secondhand. Had a bit of delay on delivery but it was worth it. We set of for 3 1/2 weeks Alps trip on Wednesday.
we had a list of what we wanted in the van, only had to compromise on the gearbox.
Well worth a visit to the show, just so you can see most of the options available in one day and without having to drive the length and breadth of the country.
