Looks like we are heading that way for our summer camping expedition this year - looking for a site on the north coast, maybe Newquay way. Needs to have decent/clean toilets & showers and somewhere for the kids to play (10 & 6). And pitches that take huge 8 man tunnel tents and their awnings (thinking of renting it out for wedding receptions!)
Any suggestions gratefully received
Thanks
Hendra, just on the outskirts of Newquay might be worth a look.
Has a big entertainment complex with a restaurant and bar as well as a cabaret lounge type affair.
Also has a waterpark and outdoor pool for the kids.
Another vote for the Hendra here too, been a few times and aleways had a good time.
Watergate bay gets my vote - and our kid ... 😆

porthbeach campsite , excellent site
Hendra sounds a bit too Butlins for our simple tastes, but keep them coming...
another vote for Porth Beach.. 5 minutes by road from Newquay
We often take the kids down there with some friends and their kids..
It's basic but superbly kept, no Newquay bustle and rowdiness and the beach is right across the road and is epic..
can't recommend it highly enough for what you're looking for..
Agree with porth beach, good clean toilets, beach right across road and a pub between the camp site and beach. 24hr security on site.
We go to Travella every year.... Love it. Tried hendra last year and it was ok for the kids entertainment innthecevening but was VERY "Butlins" so it'll be back to Travella again next year 😀
Nice and close to Crantock beach too .
MY GOD Travella, i used to go there in the early 80's when i was wee. caravan from Scotland inc a night parked up in the services somewhere. Gosh, memories.
Watergate Bay, pretty good all round
Trevornick is right outside Newquay on Holywell Bay. Loads for kids to do if busy and noisy suits! Lakewell near Perenwell is quit and cheap and where we will be going this time 🙂 It is a family owned site and at 12 a night for pitch and power you can't complain!
Atlantic view nr portcothan is 10-15 minutes drive north of Newquay. Much quieter as a result! Simple field campsite. Ok clean toilets and showers.
No club house, bar, or other 'attractions' fairly cheap too. We've been there many times
Only a few minutes to walk to portcothan beach which is quiet by Cornwall standards
We go to Treago farm every year. Really nice place with great facilities. Bar and shop on site too!
Smugglers Haven, beautiful.
Crantock Plains is nice.
Why Newquay though...I cant stand the place.
If you've kids somewhere like Looe is nice. Nice little beach, harbour for crabbing, nice pubs/cafes.
If it sounds ok I can recomend Camping Caradon at Trelawn. Nice big pitches, little bar that opens on demand & owners are lovely.
Mother Iveys bay, private beach no clubhouse etc
Park for the kids and a massive pitch with all hook ups
Porth Joke campsite's worth a look - just down the coast from Newquay but well away from the madness (Personally I'd avoid Newquay itself.... think a slighly less aesthetically challenged Blackpool filled with added wannabe surf dudes...but Watergate Bay is lovely).
It's at the end of a long gated track close to Crantock.. Short stroll to a lovely and virtually private beach and walking distance to Crantock village.
Facilities are on the basic side and I think it does get a tad busy at peak times but it's a fab location if you just want to chill out.

EDIT: ...as another option a bit further west, I've not stayed there myself but this place gets pretty good reports too. It's a bit further west so good for exploring St Ives, St Agnes etc, and again is smack bang on a great beach close to Godrevy lighthouse:

personally i'd avoid newquay like the plague. drive another 30mins west and its a different world... although has to be said all of cornwall is getting silly busy these days.
I live 20 miles south of newquay, and must admit i wouldn't recommend it!
I would recommend getting down to St Ives/Hayle way, In particular St Ives Bay Holiday Park. They have loads of camping, as well as chalets, caravans and facilities.
Takes twenty minutes to get from south to north coast.
If you want simple have a look at Crantock Plains.
We go to Travella every year.... Love it.
We used to go when the kids were younger, what a great place and location
Great walk down to the beach too
Cheers guys - done the south coast quite a bit, so wanted north coast, no real desire to go to Newquay itself!
