Taking my two camping for the first time (5 and 8) so nothing hardcore to put them off it for life please! Maybe somewhere that has activities (even a playground) on site as well as interesting stuff to do locally.
Any ideas? Could be Dales or Lakes at a push.

Think your better going Cornwall area for last bit of warmth for camping, Unless you have sleeping bags of a comfort rating of minus 5 I wouldn't do it without one.

I remembered staying at a Caravan & Camping club site in the Grizedale Forest
Which had marked walks and wooden xylophones in and amongst the paths.

We're off to Appletreewick (or something like that)in the Dales next weekend taking our 1 year old for the first time. Not sure what there is to do but nice scenery.
Easy. Barn Farm at Birchover. It's a really good site with great facilities and is in a village with 2 eating pubs. Loads of interesting countryside to explore nearby including the caves above the Druid Inn and Robin Hood's Stride a short walk away.

Not sure what you are after but the Royal Oak at Hurdlow is next to the High Peak Trail, does amazing food and has a bunkhouse as well.

As someone who has stayed at the Royal Oak and Barn Farm in Birchover, the Birchover campsite wins hands-down for kids. No contest. The food at the Royal Oak is great and it is directly on the High Peak Trail, but it's not a terribly inspiring campsite.

Trollers Gill (or rather, the approach to trollers gill!) is a lovely short easy walk with a lovely, clean, spring-fed stream to paddle in at the end. Cafe with ice cream etc at the entrance to Parceval Hall gardens.
There's a show cave on the main road to Pateley Bridge a few miles away.
You can paddle, swim and picnic at the river at Burnsall. Ice cream van and toilets present.
Kilnsey Park Trout Farm is great, maybe for a little bit older though. 🙂
Rivendale down towards Ashbourne isn't exactly a hidden gem (it's huge) but it has all the family facilities, playpark etc plus off-road cycle and walking trails close by.
Stilltortoise - happy to bow to your knowledge, the venison burger at the Royal Oak keeps clouding my judgement....

Have to admit I took my eye off this as replies were a bit scarce last night. Some of these (Royal Oak and Rivendale) looked just the ticket but two night minimum stays at weekends.
I booked into the Waterloo Inn south of Buxton in the end! I will keep these ideas for reference though so thanks to all that replied.
They lasted 20 minutes in the garden 'practice' so fingers crossed!
