The online vs LBS bike shopping thing has been done to death, and I think I fall somewhere in the middle of the two camps....but what about buying camera stuff?

There isn't really any local camera retailers round here - just John Lewis/Currys and the likes so where should I look online for a decent deal? is there a large Internet Specialist I'm unaware of or are there any LBS type business who specialise in online sales that should get more distant business such as mine?

Give our local camera emporium a try, Clifton Cameras in Dursley, they have a strong Web business and also knowledgeable staff, just like a good lbs.

I'll second Clifton Cameras. it may not be 'your' local camera shop, but they are independent and deserve to succeed.
Their prices are pretty good too.

Have a look at Simply Electronics- prices are dirt cheap.
They have loads of shit reviews though, but seem to deliver- just very slowly.
It's been a week since I ordered, and it's still at order processing.
I figured it was worth the risk, as I could always get refunded through visa if it goes tits up.

http://www.wilkinson.co.uk have always been fairly knowledgable and helpful whenever I've gone into their high street stores. They're a small northern chain - 8-10 shops I think.

+1 for Wilkinsons, splendid service from them in the past and altogether a much more pleasurable shopping experience than I got in Jessops with their high pressure sales techniques....

Seconded for CameraPriceBuster. If you've got something specific in mind then find it on there and it'll tell you the cheapest place to get it. Tracks prices constantly so it's always up to date.
