Yes, it's time for another instalment in the perennial 'what phone do I want?' thread series.
In this case, I'm looking for 'decent point-and-shoot' camera performance, not pro-quality all the bells and whistles standard. Quite relaxed about other 'phone functions - anything I want it to do will be covered by almost any spec.
I see the Moto G8 Power (£220) gets good reviews, and I'm comfortable with the Moto-range phones from past experience. Can anybody suggest alternatives to consider, without stretching the budget much further?
TIA!
£329 will get you the Pixel 3a which is considered the best budget camera phone at the moment (Pixel 4a due out in the next couple of months), but I think the Moto G8 has a half decent camera.
The Oppo A9 is supposed to have a good camera - there's plenty of reviews about.
Pixel probably the obvious choice, but I like Oneplus and Sony cameras, so if you can find something (maybe a slightly older model) from them in your budget you won't go far wrong.
Coming at you from a Pixel 3A.
Camera is dope imho.

My 5 year old S7 finally died on saturday, picked up a Moto G8+ from Argos, £240, very pleased so far. Went for it over the other G series phones because it has the best compromise of camera and NFC, and I'm converted to phone contactless paying now.
I got a Moto One Zoom, which is pretty damn good. Wide angle (0.5x) and tele (3x) lenses as well as the standard 1x, panorama processing seems better than my older G4 and G6, low light mode is good if a bit noisy, shoots RAW for those of us who edit in things like Lightroom mobile. Not widely available, it seems, so I bought from a Czech site (Alza) and have had no issues with it.
Iphone X
Either that or my 16 year old daughter has a deep wellspring of untapped natural photographic talent.
I dunno kayak23 it toally missed focus on that branch you were trying to get a pic of.
Iphone 11 pro, phenomenal camera and generally a great phone.
That might stretch the £220 Moto price, the OP was looking at 🙂

Yeah, missed that, good point. Nice phone though, albeit a tad out of budget!
Thanks all! Definitely some food for thought there.
The Pixel 3a looks like a good option, but even that might be pushing the budget. What’s the panel’s view on a SH pixel 2?
I have an iPhone XR, and just a comment, the current mask situation and the inability of facial recognition to work is a pain.
You mileage might vary but a finger print sensor would be something to look at if you rely on your phone for payment.

Having gone from a phone with a fingerprint sensor, which I eventually gave up on because it played up if my fingers were damp or sweaty, or if it was raining...
to one with Face ID which worked pretty much all the time, wearing a mask does bollox things up rather, so I’ve just gone back to using my bank card!
And yes, I could use my access PIN on my phone, but I use more than four digits, and I just can’t be arsed.
I've recently bought a oneplus Nord off eBay for £340, new in sealed box. My main concern was battery life and camera. I looked for at least 4000mah battery. The Nord is lasting very well. Camera is untested really, but it does have good reviews and 48mpix. Good front camera too, although I'm not fussed. It also has face recognition unlock, that's really good.
Loved my Nokia 7 plus, but usb port failed. Could have it fixed, but treated myself!
I got a Samsung S10 recently and the camera(s) is(are) amazing. I got about £400 off by opting for the prizm white one; looks hyper-dodgy but completely covered by a black case, so now looks more manly!
