The wife wants an upgrade from her compact / point and shoot, but by her own admission doesn't have the knowledge to get the best of a ful DSLR type.
Found this after a recommendation, anyone got any advice / suggestions?
Is a 'bridge' camera a bridge between compact and SLR?
Yes, more or less. Similar size to a DSLR, larger sensor than a compact, greater zoom range, but no interchangeability of lenses. One point to make; taking bridge cameras to gigs can be an issue, as security don't know diddly about cameras, and view bridge types as 'pro' cameras, because they look like DSLR's, and they can stop you taking them into the show when they do bag searches. I've seen it happen. A quality compact, like a Lumix TZ20, can be taken pretty much anywhere without any real issues. Worth taking into consideration.
Indeed it is. It'll allow more manual control of the camera such as aperture and shutter speed control. The spec looks good for the price. I've got a friend who has that camera and she loves it.
Its really a over sized compact camera with a larger image sensor
If you want to go into deeper you'l find that the aperture settings in low light a problem
and have to rely on flash provided and also you can't change the lenses.
Also check the frames per second incase you need this feature plus you
may find the focus to picture taking slow too.
