Sad-sad or sad-happy?
Sad-sad on DIY SOS surely would be they've fudged it up and the owner hates it.

I cry if I ever catch a fleeting glimpse of that bloody Gogglebox programme. More than a glimpse and I want to murder people. Any people.

Don't know about tv, but my missus briefly "lost" the dog at Coed y Brenin at the weekend whilst I was whisking the nipper round the Blue trail. Got back to the trail centre to be met by dog trying to get into the bins, with no sign of the missus. Eventually tracked her down to the river where she had convinced herself that the beast had either drowned or been run over and was hysterical in a most heart-wrenching fashion.

Didn't know whether to slap her or the dog.. šŸ˜€

To be fair, some of the backstories on DIY SOS are pretty heartbreaking.

The bit in Wall-E where the robots are dancing, and the bit later when Wall-E gets sorted out by Eve. No, I don't know why - I think there must be something wrong upstairs 😯

Tbf, if it was the episode MrsMC was watching, it was a tremendous advert for the general goodness in people.

I was reading bike Macs and trying to ignore the telly. Honest. 😳

When they held hands to face their imminent demise šŸ™

I cried in The Green Mile when big black bloke said he was scared of the dark before they killed him.

Oh and 'The Happy Prince' by Oscar Wilder when I heard it as a kid:

Let me also confess to finding my living room a little dusty whilst watching DIY SOS. It's definitely morphed into a different beast from when it first started and they do pull hard on the heartstrings from time to time.

Blimey! I've never even contemplated watching DIY SOS. I was totally unaware that, rather than being a shonky house makeover programme, its actually a souring example of the human spirit , and emotional roller-coaster. Every days a school day, eh?

My mates wife was a producer on it for years too. I barely even feigned any enthusiasm

I have to confess that when they did the first series of the Secret Millionaire (before it became all about the 'Big Reveal' at the end), I often got a slight sniffle at the totally selfless dedication of some people to helping make other peoples lives better

Warrior, when Tom Hardy has ripped the tendons/ligaments in his shoulder and he's trying to fight on to win the money for his best friends widow and kid. And his brother's reluctance to fight him... When he carries him out at the end i'm usually a blubbering wreck. Must have watched it about 5 times as well!

While watching One Born Every Minute, I alternate between ranting at yet another Brizzle teenage pregnancy caricature, utterly useless ****wittted dad2bes, control freak mum2bes, sweary vicars' wives, interfering family members in the delivery suites, parents2be utterly in equipped for life in general, let alone a screaming baby and then crying when the baby pops out.

Saving private Ryan, at the end, in the grave yard, "was I worth it?"

Shawshank redemption, on the beach, and now that I've seen it enough times to know what's coming, pretty much from the moment Morgan Freeman suits down for his parole hearing.

Bastards the lot of you. Reading this on my phone at my desk at work. I'd forgotten about that lad in Educating Yorkshire. 😄

But agree about the war memorials. Attend the Remembrance Day parade in our village as my lad does the parade with the Cubs and Scouts. They read the names from the memorial, ridiculously long list for what at that time was a small farming and mining community. My lad was chosen to do the reading last year "They shall not grow old" etc. I was in bits.

Happy sad at the returning soldiers and airman - too many late nights as a young kid stood waiting in big dark hangers for my dad to get back from tours/exercises.

Ohh and not TV, but anytime I hear The Drugs Don't Work (The Verve) because at the time I was on the verge of losing the love of my life.

And (thanks dad) Floyd's "Shine On...' - he only asked to have it played at his funeral (we all shared his love of the band).

Saving private Ryan, at the end, in the grave yard, "was I worth it?"

+1

The whole final episode of Band of Brothers where the real soldiers speak about their experiences, pretty dusty the whole way through that.

12 Years a Slave at the end where he apologises to his family for being away.

Return of the King when Aragorn tell the Hobbits they don't need to kneel

Oh and the start of Up and Toy Story 3 as well.

I found Sunshine on Leith oddly affecting too.

Basically I'm a great big softy

+1 to many of the above, End of Frozen, definitely the end of Toy Story, the start of Up, the end of that First Episode of Hinterland (really sad), the Doctor Who 50th special when Tom Baker turned up (BIG fan when I was a kid and I know it helped to create a lot of demons for him).

+1 for War memorials, WW1 was the opposite of the Battle of Britain, we owe too much to the many, not the few.

Worse since I had kids.

Worse since I had kids.

I have heard a theory that this is an evolutionary thing to allow men to cope with fatherhood without committing infanticide after their first 6 week stretch of zero sleep.

Decrease testosterone, increase progesterone, puts you in touch with your emotional feminine side.

http://news.sciencemag.org/social-sciences/2011/09/fatherhood-decreases-testosterone

This might also explain why married men can't park.

Gah, a lot of mine have already been mentioned - the furnace bit of Toy Story 3, the start of Up (and how did THAT ever make it into a kid's film, too?), the end of Marley And Me (ditto), end of Blackadder goes Forth, Senna, Beaches, Steel Magnolias, Watership Down, The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off, It's A Wonderful Life, the end of Warrior, end of Leon, etc etc etc... I think I'm composed of a higher than normal percentage of blouse.

Perspective, ladies and gentlemen.

The thing is, if I'm watching something like Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, etc then I'm sort of steeled for the fact that it'll be emotional. It's something you are expecting when you go into those films.

Hence why it's the unexpected gut punch from things like kid's films, comedies and daytime reality TV that can really get people.

DIY SOS, when they do a really shonky job on some poor disabled kid's bedroom, and you just know it will be falling apart within six weeks... šŸ™‚

But seriously, that Educating Yorkshire lad was something else. What an advert for the teaching profession. It was nearly as bad watching the same teacher putting himself in hospital a couple of weeks earlier through stress, overwork, and sheer determination to do right by those kids.

All sorts of things on telly can suddenly trigger a slightly hot feeling around the eyes, but the beginning of Up, does me in every time.
Another one was Buffy, when she gets home, and calls 'Hi mom!' 'Mom?', 'Mom?' 'Mummy?', as she sees her mum lying on the sofa, dead. It was the quavering in her voice as she said 'Mummy?', that just did for me.
