I'm not winning with the dechubbing at the moment, so have decided that I need a spell of proper calorie counting.

We cook 99% of our own food, so I am thinking it would be good to get some calorie counted recipes - that would keep us honest, and would help us break out of our current rut...

Agreed - Pinch of Nom is great (the chicken parmigiana is one of our go to recipes) . I also like the Hairy Bikers books.

+1 on these. We have all of the Hairy Dieters series of books and their are plenty of great meal ideas in them.

another vote for the Hairy Bikers, certainly helped when my other 1/2 did the 5:2 diet

And I have to say that both PoN and HB books don't feel like 'diet' books at all (we don't diet as such, just try to be sensible about what we eat) - all of the meals we do are very nice and don't feel like we are eating diet food. Another great recipe (in one of the HB books I think) is the beef stroganoff.

Have you tried using a smaller plate?

The Bored of Lunch slow cooker and air fryer books but have calories per portion included.

I use MyFitnessPal for calorie counting and its never failed me when I've stuck with it and been honest.

Fast 800 Easy and the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet Book. Lots of good ideas for carb swaps and keeping calories down.

Use an app if you need to calorie count. You'll have to weigh and count your ingredients and be scrupulously honest.

Alternatively, get some smaller plates, go lower carb and don't ever eat (or drink other than water/black coffee/tea) until lunchtime. We're supposed to be hungry regularly. People are terrified of this, but it's normal and natural and the way we've existed for the vast majority of our existence.

We use the PON books most days and recommend them. The earlier ones were best though with the latest having ever so slightly changed versions of what went before.

Camp Fire Stew, Nasi Goreng, Mozzarella Meatballs, Zingy Burger, Blue Cheese Chicken are regularly made at our house along with many others.
