need inspiration for 8yo daughters birthday.

Kindle fire is currently top suggestion; others are needed.

Is £100+ on tech too much for 8 yo?

her sister got a mobile phone for 10th birthday in August...

Books. This is my stock answer to any "what present for..." question and I've yet to find any human for whom it doesn't work.

Yeah I get "books" have just had major clearout of the "kiddybooks" but isn't a Kindle Fire a great big book shelf anyway? As well as other things?

this reminds me of a friend of mine who teaches primary school kids and asked the year 5 kids to bring in a book that they have read and to discuss, no less than 10 of them turned up with kindles!. she was not impressed that they bought in such expensive kit as no doubt if any had been lost/ broken it would have been the schools fault. As for your question well I have to admit that both my kids have andriod tablets and they are only 4 and 6. but they are mostly used for movies etc on car journeys etc.

I can't advise presents for girls as my 2 are boys, as are my 2 nephews. Also, my eldest is only 5.

My (old-fashioned?) preference with presents is to get them a 'proper' toy, something that they can actually do something with (maybe together), rather than another gadget that they'll just sit on their butt staring and prodding at.

It just really bugs me seeing kids sat around staring at a screen.

(Don't get me wrong. My 2 watch tv & dvd's, have a PS2 & Wii, have a play on the laptop & iPhone.)

I wouldn't get an 8yo a kindle/ipad/iphone type of thing of their own as I think they're still too young. But that's just my opinion.
