have found a sofa we really like the look of on a classifieds site. supposedly it's from around the 1940's. the lady wants 1500€ for it.

now my question is, is it worth it? obviously things are only worth what you are willing to pay, but am i likely to be getting a much better value sofa than i were to spend the same sort of money on something new?

Sounds a bit steep to me. I bought a Chesterfield armchair last year at the local auction house for £70. They had a couple of 2 piece suites that went for about £250 IIRC.
There's usually a load of Chesterfields on ebay

yeah... i know. lots of Chesterfields on ebay.co.uk, but in Schermany they are few and far between. well, at least original sofas in real leather are. lots of vinyl leather copies around, but i don't want that.
