Covid permitting, we're staying in a cottage near seahouses over Christmas. One of our group is a mad keen wild swimmer and would love to find an iced up tarn to swim in. Looking at the forecast there's potential if we head inland into the Cheviots, so does anyone have any tips of places to try?
Thanks in advance
There is a little tarn above The Drake Stone near Harbottle in which I have seen people swimming in the summer. There’s a car park in the wood and it’s about 1/2 mile walk from there. Not being a wild swimmer I have no idea how good or safe it is but it’s a few hundred metres long.
It would be a good 45 minute drive from Seahouses, probably nearly an hour
Edit: it’s called Harbottle lake but is apparently an unsafe route due to Storm Arwen damage?

Thanks jimw that looks like a lovely spot. It's going on the list 😁
Harbottle lough is nice for swimming in in the summer. There was a lot of tree fall around harbottle. You maybe could park at the castle and walk up as it is only a short walk through the forest. Would rather swim in the sea. Need a sauna nearby though
I don’t know that area, but you could look on the bluetits website for a local group, see where they swim or join an event:

Not gender specific 🙂
You’ll be lucky unless there’s a sudden drop. It’s looking like 4-5C even inland even accounting Harbottle I doubt it read 1c.
