Spotted a bird I've never seen before yesterday, quite a few of them In fact. It's their call that I didn't recognise at first, only way I can describe it is electronic sounding.
I'd say they were medium to large, slightly larger than a magpie. Black and white, unusual shaped wings. Over farm land. Can't offer much more than that as they were some distance away as I was riding past

Sounds like a Lapwing to me, call sounds like it's saying pee-wit.

No definitely a Lapwing

On the red list too. As mentioned I saw loads yesterday and never seen them before

they used to gather in flocks of thousands but been hit really hard by changes in farming. They seem to be making a bit of a comeback, locally anyway. Stopped on a ride once to watch a nesting pair fight off a buzzard, the lot of a ground nesting bird I guess.
