For some reason the display has gone really dim- you can just about see it if you shine a torch on it, and everything works when plugged into an external monitor.
There is no obvious damage to it, and it hasn't been dropped or abused.
It's still under warranty, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with HP's warranty dept.
Is it likely to need a new screen or something else?
Check they blue function keys for a symbol of a sun. On mine it's f10 . Press fn and the corresponding function key to increase brightness

Had this with a Toshiba, twice. Needed new inverter,googled it and recognised problem. Hook it up to the tv and google it.
Could be screen inverter or simply screen brightness as above.
On mine its Fn and arrow keys, Dell.

The backlight on the LCD screen may have gone, had this on a Sony laptop before.

Sounds more like the flux capacitor has failed, rather than the inverter.
