20p? forget about it.
I put £15 in once then brimmed it, all was good.

If "she" has only out in a tiny amount then I wouldn't lose sleep over it

Should be OK - I put about £1 in once, brimmed it with petrol for a couple of weeks and had no problems.

Was just glad that "pay at pump" systems mean you don't have to reveal your idiocy to the person in the kiosk......

I put petrol in my wifes diesel car.

Drained it off (about 8 gallons of petrol vs 4 gallons of diesel) and then ran it in my petrol car; putting a couple of gallons of the mix to each tank of petrol. Ran fine, although as it was a V8 it didn't last long 🙂

I bought a nice little car off Godzilla a few years ago. My wife put about a tenners worth of diesel in it. I brimmed it up with petrol straight away. All was fine until it went for an mot and it had buggered the catalitic converter when it happened. Still haven't forgotten about it and my wife still owes me a car

Did the nozzle fit? Or were you trying to put it in the wrong hole?

I put petrol in my diesel, £45 quids worth
, had to pay for that and £200 for the tank to be drained and then filled up with super expensive extra price diesel instead if the normal stuff another £85 quid. That was not a good day!!

not really. Lots of people put petrol in diesel as an antifreeze in cold climates. Those of us that run on veg oil mix add a little petrol, too.

I did it once, put about £10 in a £40 tank. I siphoned it until it started smelling like petrol then filled up - worked fine, misfired a few times very slightly in the first 10 miles or so.

20p - nothing.

Yeah, but only a little bit. £45 could be half a tank or more - bad news.

Drain the fuel, and separate the diesel from the petrol using fractional distillation- I'll buy the diesel off you for 20p.

Once had the great joy of discovering a mate had filled his Ducati with diesel. And the even greater joy of his mate going "NOT AGAIN!"

I've done the petrol in a diesel thing. On my brand new (to me) SMax, my first diesel car. From habit I pulled up at the petrol pump and brimmed it from empty - £65 worth of petrol. Managed to get about 4 miles before the cars started to struggle and eventually conk out. Pulled in, checked the petrol receipt, it was a DOH moment.

It cost me £300 to call out the AA and sort it to have the petrol removed and disposed of (despite me asking to have it back for our 2nd petrol engined car but he wasn't allowed to do that), fuel lines purged and primed with diesel, some 'additive' for the high pressure fuel pump that has a special lubricant applied which is stripped out by petrol apparently and enough diesel to get me to the petrol station where I had to fill up with another £65 of petrol - so all in all about a £430 mistake.

This is what happens when you lend your car to the wife. She only had it for an hour
