We have a week sorted for North Norfolk in August, staying self catering in Holt.
Any recommended eating/drinking places in Holt? Or further afield?
We'll be doing the obligatory messing about on beaches/nature stuff a bit, but what else should plan to do?
And, probably just as importantly, anything to be best avoided.
No bikes are coming on the trip... 😥
Just got back from a week in Cromer. Craft Burger was so good we went back twice. Not far down the road from Holt.
The steam train to Sheringham is worth it too.
not a local, but when we end up that way, I make a beeline for http://salthouseduncow.com/ and crabs sandwichs from the other side of the green http://salthouse.org.uk/
Sandringham a bit further west, as well as Wells-next-the-sea.
Wolferton station is worth a look if you in the area. It's an old station the Royals used to use for Sandringham...not worth going out of your way for but nice to have a look.
Castle Rising is a worth a look too.
All a bit further west of Cromer, but that's the area I visit most.
+1 for Dun Cow at Salthouse. Kings arms Blakeney is excellent tòo. For quick lunch try the visitor centre at Cley marshes nature reserve, stunning views out over the marshes
The Pigs at Edgefield and Byfords in Holt and Back to the Garden farm shop at Letheringsett are good eateries
Good walks along clifftop, Kelling Heath, Holt Country Park. Cley for nature reserve. North Norfolk Railway
Byfords in Holt is worth a visit.
<edit> ooo, ^ there you go 🙂
Thanks all!
Any particularly lovely nature reserve type places? They all look great from the websites and tourist bumpf!
Cley is good and has an excellent recently extended visitor centre
Boat trip to Blakeney Point to see the seals
No.1 chippy in Cromer, and the seal trip, the putting green north of the beach is great too.

Unfortunately, Mrs Seadog has the weakest sea legs ever provided to a human... Even watching the kids on a roundabout can make her feel sick. The prospect of any form of watercraft fills her with dread.

It's not strictly at sea ya know... 😕
Wiveton Bell for Food
Black Apollo in Holt for coffee
Nos 29 in Holt for cake. It's like Byfords was before it got too big.
Straits in Sheringham for Fish/Chips
Roy Boys in Sheringham for cooked breakfast
The Indian in Holt is usually good.
Coastal footpath from Cley to Wells is good.
The Chequers in Binham for food and beers
Village shop in Stiffkey for coffee/cake
Cookies crab shop in Salthouse for seafood/fish.
Byfords in Holt, favourite sunday destination of pretty much every cycling club in the area 😉
The beaches at Holkham along to Brancaster are stunning but be aware of the tide times as you can easily get cut off as the tide comes in very quickly!
