Off for a walk on Saturday with Mrs Blackflag. I have two routes - Miniford Path (Sp?) or Pony Path?? Both similar length. Which would you opt for? I imagine parking for the Pony path might be tricky but also therefore a bit quieter.
Both are nice but the Minffordd path is probably a prettier route.
If you want peace and quiet, park at Llanfihangel-y-Pennant and walk up from there. You probably won't see anyone else until you reach the pony path. Or take the variant up Mynydd Pencoed
If you get back down and are feeling energetic Bird Rock is worth an explore
Both are nice but the Minffordd path is probably a prettier route.
So that's the spelling then? Cheers
I actually did this a few weekends ago with my girlfriend. This is the route we took -Â http://www.trekkingbritain.com/cadairidristheminfforddpath.htm
Not sure i'd call it hard as described in the article and we did the reverse as described to reach the lake at the end of the route - make sure you stop off there for a swim if you're into that stuff.
Really recommend it.
Ex local here. Park at Idris Gates and go up the Minfordd Path. Maybe have a swim in Llyn Cau before making your way to the summit, either via Mynydd Pencoed or if you are a confident scrambler, there is a nice route directly up from the lake outlet. You may need a rope on the first section.
Once at the summit, Pen y Gadair, head east along the ridge to Mynydd Moel and then head south along the fence line, back down to the Minfordd path.
Alternatively (my favorite), keep walking along the ridge past Mynydd Moel to Point 683 where you can follow a sketchy path down the steep rocky slope to the road at the top of the pass.
Pony if you want the easiest route, foxes if you want to walk up a loose scree slope, Minffordd if you want a more rounded mountain experience.
