Anyrecommendations? I like the eastpack in the link above due to the straps to compress the bag down but don't like the price! (copy paste forces to top of post sorry).

Any other trolly style cabin bags with these cinch down straps? All the others I look up seem to be the semi ridgid style.

I have one that I use very regularly and wish I'd bought it years ago. Doesn't cinch down super thin as the lower half is kind of hard and just the upper half is soft. I suppose it's on the pricy side but I expect to have it for years to come.

Just use a normal backpack?

We use the larger Eastpak Tranverz models (We have 3) and they are great - robust with good wheels and zips.

We have a mixture of North Face, Dakine and some cheap cheap and nasty things I bought for the kids which have refused to die despite at least half a dozen trips a year for the past 5+ years. When they do finally succumb, I'll replace with the eastpak.

One of the things I really do like about the eastpak stuff is the range of colours - you can always see ours coming through on the carousel.

EDIT: And they are nearly always available discounted on Amazon eg  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eastpak-Suitcase-TRANVERZ-Sunday-Model/dp/B01KA688L6

But for your price comment, I'd be recommending Osprey. Really good kit.

I've got one of those eastpac cases. had it ten yrs, reasonably tough and the cinch down thing is useful. mine may be a little smaller as its a carry on but it seemed reasonable value at the time.

I have a Lowe Alpine Roll-on (I think). It’s well made and carries 35 or 40(?) litres and it’s been used for a good number of trips. I do find undoing the cinches a bit of a pain every time I need to go in my bag for something, but I suppose I’ll live.

35 -40l is perfect. I will take a look at the alternatives but that Amazon link is 50% on the eastpack website so within budget. Thanks.

As for why not a backpack, I have a backpack at the moment but my travel is for work at I quite often have a lot of weight in the bag (1 or 2 laptops, a tablet, cables etc) and it get old very quickly walking around with a heavy backpack, I try to transfer weight to check-in where possible but sometimes my check-in bag is full of heavy tools as well so up to weight.
