This will get the gammons going.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2023/04/18/king-charles-iii-tv-channel-watch-live-bbc-uk-us/#:~:text=Channels%20across%20the%20BBC%20network,and%20the%20BBC%20Sounds%20app.

Instead of live coverage of the ceremony or concert, the broadcaster will offer the following in the run-up to the event: Frankie Boyle's Farewell to the Monarchy, in which the comedian asks whether the Royal Family has a place in the modern world; a Coronation special of The Windsors, with Harry Enfield reprising his role as King Charles; and Emily Maitlis presents Andrew – The Problem Prince, where she will discuss the 2019 interview that sent shockwaves through the world.

I suspect that those most likely to get wound up and angry by the TV coverage of the coronation will be those who view the whole process an archaic hangover from a feudal age, and which has no role in a modern advanced democracy.

I am sure that most "gammons" will be perfectly satisfied and content by the BBC/ITV coverage.

I was reading something the other day(NY Post i think) stating Charles personal fortune is £600 million, but the value of houses, palaces and all the priceless artworks contained therein make him probably one, if not the most richest people alive today.

And yet its the taxpayer paying for this event in its entirety.

As long as it's linked in some way to the monarchy?

And yet its the taxpayer paying for this event in its entirety.

Is that a surprise? That's what monarchs do. They didn't get where they are because of their charity work. 😀

I thought "we" owned some of "their" palaces and belongings.

Accepting he's still filthy rich but not sure what is his and what is ours that he doesn't pay rent on.

This is always mentioned by the pro-monarchists on here, as if the fact that 'we' own them but don't have any use of them should be good enough for us.

Yup.

It's turning into one of those things that people are determined to tell you that they're not going to watch or otherwise participate in, rather than just not watching or participating in it.

Charlie is already pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable for a King by trying to foist a spinach quiche on us rather than some nice coronation chicken sarnies.

I pray that the weather is good that day so I can get many miles away from any coverage.

This to me is one of those " who cares?" moments.  I don't even know when the coronation is and care even less than that.

is nice to know when it is so it can be avoided, should be a cracking time for a quiet ride though I hope it ****ing chucks it down with a biblical storm rolling in. (With the Irish Met office naming it Meghan 🙂 )

So why are you reading this, let alone commenting? You don't even have a telly for goodness' sake.

A 'no ****s are given' about any of it household here.

I do know my MiL is concerned she's going to miss it as they'll be driving up to us visit us that day. If her and my wife (who will do so under duress) want to watch whatever 'highlights' are invariably on later I'll go for a walk or ride.

Nice one. Who do I ask about borrowing 'my' Daimler and staying in Balmoral next weekend?

Such Joy. Just noticed that I'm going to be missing all this Coronation crap by virtue of being at work in South Korea at the time.
Hurrah!

My guess if the population is watching regal crap its a good day for a bike ride.
When the future king got married for the first tims was an excellent day for motorcycling.
Figures crossed for good weather and the uk population being glued to the TV.

Somebody posted on our local FB page whether there were any events in the area as they were coming on holiday. The most polite response was “this is Scotland, why would there be?”

We are supposed to be in Hawes that weekend, but with the delays to our house purchase we might end up staying local. Was so looking forward to some nice quiet walks that weekend. Sad times.

Hate to break it to you but we never are. Hence why its the "King is dead, long live the King". It magically passes the very instant they die. The ceremony is just for fun.
So its off to the tower with you.

Who do I ask about borrowing ‘my’ Daimler and staying in Balmoral next weekend?

Sadly Balmoral is private. Its surprising what you can afford on a government salary although guess the lack of inheritance tax helps.

Or sneak onto Balmoral estate to do a bit of fishing on the Dee. Spinning of course, no fly needed. You risk getting put in the tower or even shot for spinning on a salmon river, but afterall it does belong to the people.
