Hi, Myself and a friend are wanting to do a coast to coast from Grange over Sands in the West to Scarborough in the East.
Looking for a route that's mostly off road, going to attempt it over 2 days so 65-75 miles per day and stop at a B&B somewhere in the middle.
Can anyone give advice on some cycle routes to follow through the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park please, even if its just the names of villages/towns to head for and then i can research bridleways/old rail lines.
We plan to travel light, maybe a pannier on the back, looking for some rough terrain and a few steep hill climbs.
If there's an slightly alternative route you would suggest that'd be brilliant as well, as long as the route takes us roughly through the same area, looking forward to some amazing landscape views. I did see a few C2C rides start from Morecambe.
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the Ravenglass to Ravenscar route for ideas. Obviously includes the Lakes, and I would tweak some of the stuff around Hawes/Bainbridge to be a bit more direct. And not bother with any of the off road stuff in the Vale of York.

Your distances sound a little "conservative". Masham would be a reasonable half way point and is closing on 70mi by road so I'd imagine a decent off road route would be 80-90mi

That aside, how fit are you? I'm happy to try putting something together but you could easily be looking at 12,000'+ of climbing in a day. I'd probably manage that on day 1 but day 2 I'd be too ruined to be doing it again.

Also are you expecting "exciting" downs or just off road?

Hi dangeourbrain, We're reasonably fit, we conquered the South Downs Way in 1 day last year which has around 13000 feet of climbs so we know we can get fit enough ha. i think we're looking for a 'fun' challenge, so don't want to kill ourselves both of the days.
We're looking for a mixture of hills, downs, sights and the odd bit of paved road..... just trying to get away from all the traffic and enjoy ourselves.
Any routes or trials you can point us towards would be greatly appreciated. I've found a lot of routes others have posted up but they look mostly on road routes.
Thanks Rich

If you enjoyed the sdw you should have a cracking ride of it. I'll see what I can piece together for you. If you're happy with two days like that you'll be in for a good ride as you won't need to track Valley bottoms too much either.

Did Grange over Sands to Scarborough in three days, mainly off road, for Marie Curie five years ago.
45 miles first day, 52 miles second day and 57 miles on the last day.
I think I still have these recorded on Strava so I could pull of the GPX files for you if you want them.

Hi Rob_S, that would be brilliant if you could find the GPX files.
Can you remember any landmarks (villages/towns) you went through and maybe where you stayed overnight so i can have a search on Google maps :).
