You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So it looks like the days for our British Pound might be numbered and that we are heading for digital currency at some point. I suppose this is inevitable given the amount of debt sloshing round in the current system, and the way that inflation is starting to take off. The video below gives us a possible and slightly scary scenario how the transition could be made, allowing the individual to prepare for what seems like a real possibility within the next five to ten years:

Some of it sounds far fetched, but then again so did a lot of things two years ago. I've been investing recently in Crypto but I wonder from watching the video whether this is really the best way forward since it seems that Crypto might be heavily regulated by governments in the future. So I am tempted to possibly buy some gold as a hedge, or to sink money into something that can't be inflated away like art or whisky. It all sounds a bit worrying if I'm honest so what would you do to put your mind at rest?
what would you do to put your mind at rest?
I'm going to have a beer.
We need a referendum on this idea.

My mind would be more at rest without brand new forum members posting covidbolloxs;
They Need Your Children Vaxxed in Order to Install a Social Credit System

Melissa Ciummei, a financial investor from Northern Ireland, has serious concerns that injection passports will be used more like data passports to control participation in society.

I'm interested in the financial side not the medical side, but since the two have become interlinked it is difficult to separate and this lady gives a good explanation of the financial and digital ID part of the picture.
Have you actually watched the video? If so would be great to hear what you think to the questions I asked?
Ooh yes please, will you invest my life savings for me?

not really, i had to scroll back to check

Most our money is digital already, so I'd not worry about it at all....
I've not been paid in cash since I had a part time job pot washing in college kitchens back in 1987 ish.....
If you can send £50 via PayPal gift, to getitrightupye@gmail.com, I'll gladly share my opinion with you 🤣🤣🤣
Have you actually watched the video?
All the conspiracy theorists on here have been cancelled. There's nobody left to watch it.

No, the minute I saw "I’ve been investing recently in Crypto ", I knew it wasn't worth my time 😉

You can lead a horse to water!
My local butty shop, and both Chinese's are cash only so I can't see fully digital happening anytime soon!
Melissa Ciummei, a financial investor...
Is she though?
24% of the population are over 65.
cash will be around for a long long time i think.
But most people can pay on their phones or with contactless so takeaways could easily adapt surely? Unless it's one of those takeaways that are a front for a laundry operation? But that I'm guessing is what the government would have control over. Nothing is hidden from them, and combined with digital ID it would mean that your every move it tracked whether you are honest or dis-honest.
I don't like that idea, not because I have nothing to hide, just because it does not feel right. It's a bit Big Brother. This is where alternative forms of wealth or currency could come in that are outside of Government control, and this is what I'm trying to explore.
All the conspiracy theorists on here have been cancelled. There’s nobody left to watch it.
There was a piece on R4 earlier about conspiracy theorists, only caught pieces of it but it seemed like it might be interesting. Couple of things I caught is that conspiracy theories have been around forever, and one of the biggest drivers is a feeling of powerlessness, the theorist use the conspiracy to gain a sense of empowerment even if its complete bobbins.
Which seems about right.
But then, that's pretty much what I thought anyway so obviously I'd agree with it. Which was another thing they discussed.
So this "alternative forms of wealth or currency". Would it be legal tender?
Unless it’s one of those takeaways that are a front for a laundry operation?
I did not realise washing my pants was considered financial crime.
So this “alternative forms of wealth or currency”. Would it be legal tender?
Gold is so far as I'm aware? Art and whiskey, wine etc can be traded.
Id be inclined to start a new thread without that video to be honest, it's not helping your cause.
The financial side of things you mention are worth a thread, why not, but that vid...
If you do go along that route ask for this one to be closed first so there isn't a duplicate thread going. You can self report a thread.
I've done it for my own threads a few times.😉
Welcome to the forum by the way. There are some very knowledgeable people* on here but that does mean you will be challenged pretty hard if you post something controversial.

@easternrider, perhaps I've been overly harsh...
Could you post a link or two, to other forums, where you have discussed this topic already? Maybe on political-economic forums?
Or did you just decide to join a cycling forum today, to discuss currency issues?
this is what I’m trying to explore
If you really are trying to explore that, then don't link it anti-vaccine conspiracy theory. Otherwise, as you may have noticed, nobody will take you seriously.

Thanks will have a look for one and if I find something better will try to replace.
To be honest the stuff in that video though kind of tallies on with what's going on at present and it's the video that got me thinking about this as it covers all bases, the pandemic, digital ID, vaccine passports and digital currency. Since nothing seems to make sense right now it's kind of scary stuff and seems believable. So I'd rather that people dissect this video and pull it apart if they think it's a load of rubbish rather than just dismiss it. That would put my mind at rest since a good friend who sent me this is 100% sure something sinister is afoot.
The financial stuff still stands though since digital currency and inflation seem a certainty, possibly with digital ID. So how best to prepare for this is what I'm after.
Or did you just decide to join a cycling forum today, to discuss currency issues?
No I joined because I'm looking for a new mountain bike. Yet despite this being a cycling forum, no one has yet replied to my bike question.
. Since nothing seems to make sense right now it’s kind of scary stuff and seems believable
Which is just rubbish as the situation is fairly clear and subject to a high degree of media coverage and scientific reporting. There’s a pandemic going on, there’s no great reset, no new world order, 5G taking over your brain or lizard zombie overlords murdering children and drinking their blood.
Buy a giant trance (that’s a bike not a government narcolepsy conspiracy) great bikes, can’t go wrong with one.
Since nothing seems to make sense right now it’s kind of scary stuff and seems believable.
You worry too much and are susceptible to scaremongering. You're welcome. I will accept my consultancy fee in gold or whiskey, definitely not art.

There are some links between some of them, if indirectly, others require a large level of scepticism.
These are scary times for many and a lot doesn't make sense, I'm inclined to agree there. The trouble with this is there are some out there trying to exploit this and make a buck off too.

For someone who was just a bit concerned about a video a friend shared with them you seem very clued up on it and I almost feel your “friend” thing is a load of old cobblers and your just spreading this old guff yourself.

These two things are conspiracy theory (and religious) gold. We naturally like when things connect together, so it's seductive when someone comes up with an argument that links disconnected things to each other. But why would one thing "cover all the bases"? The pandemic and digital currency aren't interlinked. Rationally anything that takes 2 such separate things and wedges them together should cause us to bounce off the idea but psychologically it's appealing.
And the other, "nothing makes sense"- so the two big reactions to that are "nothing makes sense so things that make no sense might as well be real" and "nothing makes sense to me so I really want someone to make it make sense". A powerful combination.
But, "nothing makes sense" isn't an equal playing field- just because our assumptions from 2 years ago got turned upside down, doesn't mean that it's now plausible to find a london bus on the moon. Being shocked by a terrorist attack in new york that seems totally unreal doesn't make it equally plausible that it was an inside job.
And "nothing makes sense" is a totally reasonable response to the world, because things are really bloody complicated so even things that make sense, can be hard to understand and the world's now at a level where no one person can understand even a fraction of it. But that can be overwhelming so people look for simple answers. "Get brexit done" "live within our means" etc. And there are some things that really don't make sense, like a lot of the financial world, which literally require us to either believe made-up bullshit or to act like it's totally real even when we know it's not.
And of course, it's nice to understand things that other people don't. It's hard to genuinely do that- I mean, I'm a genuine subject matter expert on a few things and I like to show it off but they're nichey and unimpressive. And most of the really impressive stuff is so incomprehensible that nobody else understands it so you can't show that off either. So the quick way to feel smarter is to say "wake up sheeple" and believe things that aren't true so that everyone else seems wrong.
But it's not reasonable to expect the world to make sense. And more so it's not reasonable to expect to understand it. We need to find ways to live with the fact that we can't understand it all, that the models that help us deal with it are often bollocks or comfort blankets or even when they give good answers are massive oversimplifications, that no matter how smart or educated we are, the entire human race doesn't have all the answers and no individual person understands much of all the answers we do have and some of the answers are wrong. That we don't know why everything happens and a bunch of it happens for no particular reason.
If everything starts to feel comforting and simple and you feel like you're gaining control of the situation it's probably false.

Agreed, especially when the policy decisions of the last 20 months have seen the richest one percent hugely expand their wealth, whilst many of the general public have struggled. the poorest in society have been hit the hardest. But Bill Gates has done fine out of the pandemic, the lockdowns and the vaccines for example:

Anyway I'm straying, more concerned with the financial stuff right now.
Buy a giant trance (that’s a bike not a government narcolepsy conspiracy)
Definitely worthy of recognition 😂
But Bill Gates has done fine out of the pandemic, the lockdowns and the vaccines for example:
Which is incorrect as even basic research shows gates actually said:
“Gates says the $10 billion his foundation has put into the three organizations has created an estimated $200 billion in social and economic benefits. (The estimate is from the Copenhagen Consensus Center, a think tank that estimates cost analysis to global problems.)”
Which is completely different to him doing well personally, is this part of the general Bill Gates is injecting me with a tracker lunacy?
Follow me down the rabbit hole! Nah mate.
Thanks Northwind for some logic. But people also said that things like vaccine passports, or never ending booster shots or mandated vaccines or many other things were conspiracy and loony stuff this time last year. Yet here we are? You only have to look at Australia or Austria or Lithuania and several others to see how effed up and authoritarian things are getting. And it seems to be spreading.
Anyway a digital currency I'm generally fine with, but linking it too closely to some sort of social credit system, to surveillance, to extra control on personal liberty, to censorship I am not fine with. Yet the two seem to come hand in hand. Which is where my question about assets that might fall outside of this relates to and how best to have a back up plan if it does come to this.

Free MemberBut Bill Gates has done fine out of the pandemic, the lockdowns and the vaccines for example:
That article doesn't say what you think. Gates is saying that he sees a 20-to-1 return for society on the money spent by the Gates Foundation, not for him.
Gates has got richer during the pandemic but that doesn't mean he's "doing fine out of the pandemic", or lockdowns- his net wealth has grown pretty steadily for over a decade. And the pandemic's been a good time to be in tech.
(this is also one of the things that doesn't make sense- the real economy is now barely connected to the stock market, so even while economies teeter shares can soar)
This has become predictably boring.

Free MemberThanks Northwind for some logic. But people also said that things like vaccine passports, or never ending booster shots or mandated vaccines or many other things were conspiracy and loony stuff this time last year. Yet here we are?
Some people declare just about anything to be conspiracies or loony stuff, but all of those things you mention were always pretty likely. And none of them need a conspiracy in order to make sense.
They're also inconsistent. If the point of the vaccine was to get people into some dystopian system, then what's the point of boosters? The announcement of boosters reduced people's faith in the vaccine, and by definition they're only for people who've already been vaxxed.
But that's another conspiracy theory thing- inconsistencies don't matter, as long as both inconsistent versions of events contradict the official one. Two alternative versions are better than one!
Thanks Northwind for some logic.

I’m finding it quite exciting 🙂 I’d only read about these people in the news, apparently there’s lots on Facebook or something. now we’ve got them on bikes. I don’t have a bike by the way, just a log burner and a camper van.
^ I suppose it is novel to see 'one of them' in the wild 😂
