What time and what part of the north.?

Depending on which part of the north depends on whether you come in on the M40 or M1.

Then either take a plane or a train. Driving to London is daft, IMO.

Driving into London is not as bad as people make out. If you come in on the M1 corridor then you more than likely skip the mess that is the M6 in Birmingham but you will hit the road widening at Milton keynes. Either way your best bet is to come in on the A40 (M1-A406-A40 or M40-A40) and go down park lane. Avoid rush hour although it's not as bad when the school holidays are on. And remember to have eyes up your arse.

M1 to the North Circular, hang a left past Brent Cross and then straight off and right at the top roundabout. Follow through to Finchley Road, via a right turn at the T-junction lights.

Follow and then when the road runs right around Swiss Cottage go straight on and aim for Regents Park. Follow it around and bear right onto Baker Street. Straight thru. and then onto Oxford Street and then left onto Park Lane.

it's not the getting to London, it's the getting around and parking lark. train every time for me.

I would agree with the others. I prefer to drive to one of the suburbs and catch the overland train in. Not very expensive and saves plenty of stress imo. Obviously depends on what you're doing in town though.

If you are coming down the M1, you can carry on over the A406, go through cricklewood, down through kilburn, through maida vale, cross over marylebone road do the first left, 1st right and right again, cross over edgeware rd into sussex gdns and into lancaster gate, its the most direct way, but can be slow, best time to arrive would be 19.30-21.00 bit less traffic then.
