Thinking of buying something on faceache marketplace from the other end of the country - not expensive (£40) and having it collected.
Ive never used FB MP before, what's the best way to pay in this instance?

I think you have protection if you use PayPal for goods and services (ie not gift) but there are some charges. Who's collecting it?

Give the cash to whoever is collecting it?

Going to use a delivery company (through Shiply) so cash isn't an option.

I would always just pay Paypal G&S. Even if the seller objects, you can use an online calculator to work out the G&S amount you would need to pay for the seller to receive their net price. I think it's 3% or so.

Paypal G&S if it's being posted by the seller, but if it's being collected, I'd check the Ts&Cs, because sold as seen might come into play.

As a seller I would PayPal friend and family or bank transfer.
As a buyer I would want PayPal goods and services.
Guess it depends how trustworthy the other party seems

I think you have to accept the risk. Bank transfer and cross fingers. There is no dispute resolution on FB so why would a seller accept a payment that might get recalled. That is open to as much scamming as selling.

I did it for the first time recently - £30 sent for an item but it was on a facebook group where the seller was a regular poster so that gives you some comfort. If its just an item on FB Market then its the wild west.

How Purchase Protection works on Facebook

Many purchases made with checkout on Facebook are covered by our Purchase Protection Policies. Purchases made through third-party sites, local pick-ups, Messenger transactions, or through other messaging services don't qualify for Purchase Protection.
Purchase Protection is free, and automatically covers eligible orders. Purchase Protection means that you can request a refund if:

You didn't receive your order.

The product arrived damaged or different from described on the listing (e.g. the condition isn't accurate).

The seller didn't follow their stated refund policy.

The purchase was unauthorised.

The seller has been removed from Facebook.
In reviewing your claim, Facebook may review order details, including tracking information and listing description, messages sent between you and the seller, and supporting documents.

Has anyone paid for something via the marketplace facility for paying (that I think exists?)
Checkout?

Someone is selling a frame I want down in Cornwall, but I'm in the Midlands.
Bit wary of paying the £350 odd.
