What's the crack now with ordering goods from Germany after Brexit.... Do we have to pay import tax or anything.... Or is it still a free market.

UK is in the transition period until 31 December 2020. So no extra taxes.

After that, who knows...

you tell me! Currently looking like no free trade deal in the pipeline, so you will probably have import duty to pay at some, as yet undetermined, rate. IIRC Bike parts are not that high a rate (5% maybe), less than complete bikes anyway.

Don't worry they'll be falling over themselves to sign up to a trade deal with us! I'm sure I saw it on the side of a bus or something?

I bought some motorbike stuff from Germany a month ago. No hassle, delivered in a couple of days. Once the transition period ends at the end of December, I think things will be very different.

What's on your Brexit stockpile?

I predict rising prices at a time of economic contraction. Stagflation here we come...

Does that mean that we wont have to pay the German VAT?

Just bought an ibis frame from Germany. Turned up in 4 days and cheaper than the non stock UK dealers. Also ordered 2 more items. Both turned up within a few days. Just ordered again ( seems they have more stock of everything there !) , so should be here before next weekend. Its racing a part I also ordered from the Brussels.......... lets see who is quicker !

Correct. From January you’ll have to pay the UK rate, which is higher. And a handling fee. And, from next summer, import tax as well… barring something changing in the trade discussions.

One of those things we just took for granted, getting something at a good price from Germany in a matter of days, just as if it was delivered from the UK...

Yay "sovereignty".😕

I’m expecting to be royally (sovereignly?) shafted. Ordered some shiny German brakes in March, 9 month wait, pay on despatch. Due to arrive before we leap off the cliff, all good.

They are now delayed until mid June/July... If I pay now, I pay the lower German VAT, at a known exchange rate, but might have to pay whatever duties are put in place, plus possibly a second chunk of VAT when they arrive. If I wait till despatch, I only pay our, higher, VAT but the exchange rate could be in freefall.

Rule Britannia.
