I'm getting tempted by a new GPU to replace my ageing GTX 1070. New prices are ridiculous, but second-hand prices for older cards are slightly less ridiculous. If you squint.
Looking at a Nvidia 3070 ti for around £300 from CEX, with their 5 year warranty for a bit of peace of mind. I also have a few bits I could trade that I'll probably never get around to selling.
Any experience from buying from them? Is the warranty worth anything?
(Pretty much has to be Nvidia as I also use Blender. AMD cards are not great with Blender, and Intel are a bit rubbish)
I bought a used media player thing from them a few weeks back (not needed warranty, so no idea about that) - service was good though and the item turned up packaged like it was brand new. Was pleased. Also was quite an unusual item. so I think the "in stock/out of stock" on the site is correct, which is always nice.
We've bought Garmins from CEX. Used the warranty twice and zero quibbles from them.
I've bought a few things and they've been good. The A grade stuff has been like new. Only minor issue was a slow delivery once. Not used the warranty though. Their pricing is a bit random. Some things are absolute bargains other are more than you can get them new.
My understanding of their warranty is that they will offer you a replacement (if they have one) or a voucher to the value of the item. So in 4 1/2 years time they will offer you a voucher to the value of the GPU at that time, could be very little.
Okay that sounds pretty promising, cheers.
Re the warranty being to the value of the item - I'm okay with that, I think. It's more that I have some comeback if I get it set up and it goes up in a puff of smoke after a week... I wouldn't really expect much after five years. Though it would be a bonus.
I haven't had quite the same positive experience with grade A items, wouldn't describe some of them as like new. But buy online for distance selling protections and you can actually return things in store even if bought online. So I think you are pretty well covered really.

I bought a Grade B phone via their site, when it arrived I would have struggled to consider it Grade-C. I took it into the local shop, they agreed without any persuasion needed and refunded me there and then.
I've bought other phones within the store and been very happy with them, never had to use the warranty though.
I've bought a few graphics cards from CEX when I was building some dedicated Zwift PCs for friends. I had to return one and had no issues at all. The staff in the shops at Halifax and Huddersfield were friendly and helpful. I've also bought a phone from them and it was perfectly fine.
If you're a PC gamer and consider a GTX 1070 to be "aging" then you'll be replacing it before the warranty expires anyway.
