(I'm sure this has been done - sorry)

I need some car parts, and having been jilted by a UK ebay vendor (ordered fine, but then "not in stock" and refunded), all the next best options for OE parts seem to be from places like Buycarparts.co.uk or Autodoc.co.uk, who are actually German and the parts will be sent from Germany.

Will I get stuffed by additional VAT/import tax/handling charges?

If I was ordering "from Germany", I'd expect to get charged, but buying through a .co.uk website, I'm really not sure...

Total cost is around £45.

Thanks!

It’s under £135. You won’t get charged regardless of where it’s from.

What the European .co.uk bike sites do is ship them to the UK warehouse first, paying all the duties etc, before shipping to the customer, I assume it’s the same in other industries.

Shouldn't do. But. Check, the website should tell you whether VAT is included.

You may get charged vat if you don't already pay for it when you order.
I'm sure I've ordered from one of those sites last year and didn't have to pay any extra. That was for a rear washer motor and was about £70
Over £135 is for customs duty according to the gov website.

Do they? K and I have been stung by various .co.uk sites over the years where the returns address turned out to be overseas and hence expensive.

I avoided them before brexit because of getting stung on returns etc.

fairly easy to spot as the pricing is always a bit off kilter from the euro/GBP conversion. Rather than £99.99 it’ll be £97.63 or similar. Makes you realise how used to the x.99 convention

That’s the returns address though. It may not be their warehouse in the UK, so may not be able to accept returns.

I use bikester.co.uk - they're the same kind of set up, never had any hidden taxes, duties or even delays.
You don't get stung on returns if you pay with Paypal, cos you can claim it back from Paypal.
