I don't use iTunes. However, I owe a favour to a friend who does and I would like to surprise them by getting them an album to listen to to while away a bit of time.

It needs to be done 'digitally' as opposed to an actual object, they are abroad.

Can I do this?

Yeah, it can be done as a gift, IIRC; did it once ages ago.

Or you can just go into the supermarket of your choice and buy an iTunes gift card.

Oh bother. They are not in the UK.

From your link.

'Note: iTunes currently only allows you to gift within the same country. So, U.S. to U.S. is fine, but U.S. to U.K., Italy to Canada, or any other trans-border combination just won't work. Sigh.'

Buy the album yourself and send them the mp3 (or whichever format is preferred) file.

I did notice that, but I assumed, incorrectly, that they were in the UK. It’s all down to currency, copyright differences, etc. Shame.

It seems that the only possible workaround is to buy them an iTunes gift card in US $ from Amazon.com in the US and have it delivered to their US address.

Not ideal, I know, but it looks like the only possible solution.

Just post them a CD and let them rip it to their iTunes!

Buy them the MP3s from another site (eg, Junodownload, Amazon, Bleep etc), which they can download and then import to their iTunes library.

Good suggestion, that hadn’t occurred to me; I seldom bother with downloads from Amazon, mine are usually through iTunes as a result of something I’ve Shazammed

Amazon is pretty good actually - even if you buy the CD, they keep the mp3s available for you forever in their cloud.. Don’t need to be a Prime sub, or have their app, you can just get them from the site (although not sure, in the OP’s case, if he could ‘gift’ the mp3 version).

I used Bleep, cheers guys. In the end it was a voucher rather than an actual album.
