I have just found out I have a funeral to go to on Thursday next week. I don't own a suit so thought Next was probably a good shout for a fairly classic styled inexpensive two piece in black. However they are now closed online. Where else should I be looking? Sorry for basic questions, I only ever wear jeans and bike / surf related T-shirts.

Marks and Spencer (assuming they're still doing clothing online)

Buy a navy blue one, cos it's fine for a funeral and more use if you need it for something else (like an interview or wedding) in the future.

These are the 'Tailored' fit ones, you probably want this or possibly 'Slim'. Don't go 'Skinny' because you're not a mobile phone salesman or 'Regular' cos you're not a portly gent in his 60s. Unless you are either of those things.

Should you be going to a funeral?

A mate of mines Mum died last week and they had no Funeral - it was Covid 19 related but I think the general principle applies!

I like Holland Esq - have about 5 of their suits. Can be exceptional value in sales (one on now)

As it's my dad's funeral then yes, probably.

sorry to hear about your loss

I thought that gatherings of more than 2 people were more banned? I'm not being a pedant as I'm worried about since family members so this may be in my near future too

☹️

Close family only, max of 10 I think, but there will be less than that. However rules could change at any time.

The funeral will be the only time I see my family and I've been careful to avoid people. Last thing I need is to pass anything to my mum.

If you can't get a suit what are the smartest clothes you have? A smart coat will cover top half but better not to wear jeans if you have some trousers. You mum/family will understand the circumstances and what you wear to a funeral is not really that important in the big scheme of things.

Next online, just order a couple of sizes and return what doesn't fit.

I got my last suit from m&s.

The "tailored" jackets are fine for people of average proportions, the slim or skinny ones just seem to have no width at the shoulders so you need no belly and no arms either.

Trousers, regular unless you have no legs at all.

Jeff Banks Travel suit.

Good quality; hard-wearing, reasonable cash
