We have an old gas fire that has stopped working. Went to various show rooms at weekend. Limited options in terms of replacement because of type of fire ( has to be a balanced flue replacement) wanting to replace like for like, use existing fire place and hearth etc. Seems awfy expensive - £2.5 - 3.5k installed. Is that a reasonable - are there cheaper on line options etc or just good web companies to look at?
Thanks

We just did exactly this. New balanced flue LPG fire supplied and fitted to existing hearth and surround. Just under £2k complete in Cambs. I looked at the fire only price from Interweb suppliers and it was roughly the same as the local supplier.

Wowsers.  I'd always assumed a gas fire would be a cheaper option than getting a wood burner.  Seems not!  Our hearth/stove/flue for burning wood was about that.

Not until I've had my £2k out of it! It gets worse, we burn oil for heating! 😉

We just had a Riva 2 500 fitted which was that price so it’s not unreasonable.

Soon be repurposing the gas grid for hydrogen!

Gas work is a big con. It's plumbing with rules. Its definitely not engineering.

All plumbers with a gas ticket will be dead busy now. Wait till summer....

Get a supply only quote and decide if you're happy with paying so much for a simple connection and safety check. You probably don't have any choice.

Wood burners don't need the gas ticket, easier to get the quals, hence cheaper install.
