New job means new clothes as I'll not be wearing company branded stuff anymore.

Since an incident when I was young I've always preferred button fly but they are almost impossible to find online. Most searches pull up "zip and button fly" which is nob all use.

Anyone know of some reasonably priced button fly chinos (or similar) that also fit cyclist's legs? Nothing too fancy as I will on occasion find myself on the workshop floor underneath some kind of machinery trying to work out whats not working.

Thanks

Yep, I caught my dick in my zip fly the first day of school.

They called my mum in to the school...

A sign of things to come I suppose!

Only brand I know who still do that are Levi. They have a nice cargo trouser and obviously Levi 501s still have buttons

Its not often specified, as you've noticed. I know this because I avoid button flys like the plague. Can't stand having to faff with buttons every time I need a leak. The zip was surely invented by someone busting for a piss.

Half my M&S and Next jeans, chinos or moleskin trousers are button fly.

My Next jeans are but that blurs the line between work & home clothes. Will have to check M&S but was hoping to avoid an afternoon in Meadowhall fondling the crotch of men's trousers.

An hour and noone has suggested HebTroCo fits the bill of "Nothing too fancy"? This place is slippling. 😉

I've got some German Army surplus moleskin trousers that are remarkably good and a button fly. Could you get away with having pockets on the legs?

The only people who should be using the zipper fly are children, and ironically that’s fraught with skin pinching danger as others and myself (reception class assembly-the horror) and others can testify.

Trouser, jeans, and shorts all fit better, look better, sit better and last longer with a button fly. The only reason not to use them is because you CBA.

Link?

I bought mine from ebay, IIRC. But these look remarkably similar:

I'd expect that they're all made to a similar spec for the army.

I might give you the last one, but the others... what? The zip/buttons are always hidden, hence difficulty telling which is which. If there's any difference at all, surely the buttons, being thicker, are worse?

Does no one here wear pants? Get it out, wee, shake, put it back in pants and zip up.

In my 49 years this has not been a problem for me. Is this some kind of speed weeing I don't know about? Are you all trying to zip before finishing?

Loads of chinos have button fly. I bought some recently and what stupid pain in the (metaphorical) arse they are. Instead of piss, shake, tuck, zip... it's piss, shake, tuck, find.. button, wiggle it in the hole, stand in the middle of the lavs, finding the next button, where's the ****ing hole, there, fiddle oh god someone's coming in and I'm still stood here fiddling with my crotch oop, that's it engange button, fiddle a bit more.. Why the hell would you buy such stupid things on purpose??
(Just checked: Produkt is the brand)

I caught the foreskin once when I was a youngster, double painful as you have to unzip it back off but one of life's lessons don't be so hasty and always wear pants

Too embarrassed to tell my mum why I had tears in my eyes

I’ve never ever in decades of wearing clothing known the fly to have any bearing whatsoever on the longevity of trousers (aside perhaps from my button fly trousers arguably lasting longer because they get worn less and get more wardrobe time). WTF are you doing to your zips?

Yep, of all the weird things I've read on STW, that has to be up there in the top 10 weirdest.

I prefer button fly as they always seem to have more room for my......fat arse and massive thighs....

I've Jeans and chinos from Carharrt, Next, random from TKMaxx, Route one and I think Levis as well. Most recently Next though.

It's good to know the women on here have their own forum and can't read about us guys with fly or button dilemmas or catching your Willie in your zip

I got caught out many years ago at the (too) local hospital by a button fly. I was there for a day case tennis elbow op and the anaesthetist decided that a local nerve block on top of general anaesthetic was a good idea.

I got dressed to go home but couldn't manage my button fly with one arm dead from the elbow down, so I stood in the corridor with a nurse kneeling in front of me sorting my sartorial error out.

I remember thinking that depending on who sees me, I'll either dine out for months or become a tragic statistic; I haven't owned a button fly since 🙂

I never liked button flys when I was younger, but tolerated them because I was young and daft and they seemed cooler. Now, approaching 60 with more nous, less fashion sense, sub-optimal prostate health and the need to piss eleventy-twelve times a day, button flys are absolutely the spawn of the devil. I still have a couple of pairs of jeans/trousers with them, but I've vowed never to buy another pair. I'm also convinced all the supposed advantages are bullshit spouted by closet Amish barn raisers who love to eschew anything modern out of some reverse snobbery/trendiness 😉

Edit to say in deference to the OP, inability to use a zip without macerating your bellend is I suppose a legit reason to prefer them!

A button fly is more comfortable than a zip fly so I only buy trousers with buttons. I can't help with the OP though as they're all Hebtroco 😅

I don't think I've ever posted such a divisive thread before.

Thanks for the heads up on some brands, unfortunately many of the websites still don't bother to tell you what's going on at the fly.

Howies do specify a button fly, you just have to click to expand the 'Specification' on the product page, if that helps. Nice jeans as well, currently with 30% off by the looks.

I’m convinced a button fly fits better.
https://hebtro.co/buttons-not-zips/

Our new fatigue pants have zips and I kind of miss the buttons.

We don’t make chinos. I’m not really sure what they are.

I always thought button fly was far more sensual for sexy time.

No need for that anymore so everything is zipper. 😔

I knew I was right about the fit/comfort! Button fly trousers just sit better, you don’t get that weird bunching upwards at the crotch when you sit down (not a boner, before you ask…)

I think they do fit/hang better, the only thing I find with the tighter jeans is that I have to undo the top one.

Even wearing pants you can scratch your tool on unhosing with chunky zips.
