....well coccyx to be precise.
A strange tale involving a waterslide, some oversized swimming shorts and a five year old.

It hurts sitting down.
It hurts standing up.
It hurts to laugh.
It hurts to frown.

Whisper to me, wise ones.
How long must I endure this agony?
The pharmacist in Tesco laughed at me and said 'months mate'.

Tell me it ain't so........

Pharmacist is wrong.
It will be years, not months; the pain may be with you forever.

My backside was purple for a few weeks!!
Did mine back in 2001 so can’t really remember exact details but do remember it being uncomfortable for some time.
Sending healing vibes from family Sandboy.

Can't comment on the break but don't be tempted with long term voltarol usage to num the pain. I used it for a chipped thumb joint and it really made me ill. Messes with your blood cells apparently

Great.
Just peachy.

Arse.
Literally. 😶

I shall stick to Laphroaig, which I believe is totally harmless.

I fell off the bike at about 20mph on a concrete track. I must have twisted as I fell, straight onto my coccyx before whiplashing the back of my head into the ground destroying a helmet. Both hurt lots, but it was months before the arse stopped aching.

I've done both my ribs and coccyx before, not at the same time, I'm not that athletic 😉

It's difficult to know whether it's just brusing or a break but there's not much to be done.

If you've just bashed it rather than smashed it, then you're probably only looking a few weeks of real discomfort rather than months.

Ibuprofen, good quality marijuana and artisan IPA are your friends here.

Damaged my coccyx while snowboarding some years ago. Nurse said they don’t x-ray because treatment is same (i.e. none) if fractured or just bruised, so don’t know how badly I damaged it. Couldn't sit down on my then 2 hour train commute for first week, took about three weeks for most of the pain to subside, and another month for zero pain. Had no pain since and am hoping that I don't suffer from arthritis arse when I'm older!

I saw the thread title and thought it was a request. Imagine our disappointment.

I fell off the boardwalk at Grizedale 15 years ago and landed on the tip of my saddle cracking my Coccyx. It hurt intensely for a month or so but was strangely ok whilst riding. It's since become just a dull ache but is still noticeably uncomfortable sitting in slightly the wrong position on hard surfaces. For some people it just hurts forever.

Well I guess that depends how you apply it to your bum.
Still I suppose there would be some truth in "I fell Dr."

Was a while ago I did mine but I vaguely remember it being really uncomfortable sitting down for several weeks and then just uncomfortable with the odd shooting pain for a couple of months after. I had to buy one of those ring cushions for my office chair (and people assumed I had piles :p ) it didn't actually help that much as was just a cheap one from Amazon

If it needs re-aligning there are some osteopaths/chiropractors? who manually adjust cricked tail bones. I shall let you work out how they gain access.

I was on a stag do in blackpool and we were in a pub I think it was called sherlocks where the toilets were downstairs, I slipped heading down for a wee at probably 9 pints in and landed on my backside from the 2nd top step and bounced all the way to the bottom.

I'm glad I was drunk by that point as the night would have been a write off for me otherwise, I couldn't sit down properly for a week, the coach home was hell.

I've still got a massive dent in my right bum cheek and it took 2 years before all problems healed with my coccyx, initial period was slow recovery for about 12 weeks of continual pain, and then after it still hurt sitting on anything hard, about a year later I was mostly fine but if I sat down too quick or whatever I was sitting on put pressure on it it from the way the seat was designed it hurt. 18 months later similiar story dull ache if there was any significant pressure on the area, 2 years later no issues at all.

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy so appreciate what you're going through mate it completely sucks

Oh this is me just now! Came off at the weekend on the Castle Crag descent in the Lakes (the piece of piss easy bit at the bottom after the stream crossing).
Cuts and bruises all over, trashed helmet but the worst thing is the pain just above my arse. No signs of damage or bruising but my god is it tender!
Had a 7hr drive the day after - that was fun.

My missus did hers snowboarding: 6 months of quite bad pain plus twinges from time to time, even 12 years later. And she is 100% not a moaner when it comes to bruises and pain etc.

Beaten to it - was going to recommend a donut shaped cushion. My sister landed on hers and it was painful for a long time.

I've suffered with coccyx bum pain for over 7 years now and it doesn't look like it's going away. I damaged it as a side order to the fractured spine I got when everything went a bit wrong on my snowboard. If I'm forced to sit in the same position (cinema, theatre or kitchen dinner table), for any length of time, the pain is excruciating.

Sorry.

In seriousness Pete, since someone was waxing on about quacks,

It's possibly worth getting it checked out at a hospital. My other half fell down the stairs a few years ago, which was less dramatic than it sounds because she was like three steps from the bottom. After the pain didn't go away, long story short, it turned out she has two compressed discs. Ideally it needs operating on but they're reluctant to do it as there's a risk of paralysis and/or shitting in a bag for the rest of her life.
