Looking at riding the Burma road starting from Carrbridge heading over the hill to Aviemore and then the possibly including Ryvoan loops depending how we feel.

However from a quick search online most people do it in reverse??

Thought was anti clockwise from Carrbridge gives a few options to shorten route if time become critical (shorter loop north from aviemore missing ryvoan). If we went clockwise from carrbridge and did ryvoan then when you get to aviemore your committed to Burma road with no real out once you start it....

Any guidance on best direction?

Burma Road is best done up the hill from Lynwilg. That gives a shorter, steeper climb but you're then basically descending all the way back to Carrbridge.

FWIW, Ryvoan - Nethy Bridge is best done counter-clockwise.

Here are some other trails you might want to thread into your plans.

Those on the West side of the A9 make a nice follow-up to the Burma Road

I'm not sure on the Ryvoan direction - have done it both ways, multiple times - I wouldn't do Burma Road anything other than from Lynwilg, but Ryvoan is bi-directional IMO. Some bits work one way, others the other direction. Unless you mean dropping in to Ryvoan from Rynettin - then yes - Forest Lodge to Glenmore definitely.
